    Explosive Ignition

Guys, My boiler got serviced this morning and is apparently in perfect working order, but I'm wondering if it's suffering from intermittent exposive ignition. I shared the symptoms with the Gas Safe engineer who carried out the service but he didn't seem to think there was anything serious...

    Rated People any good?

Overall I'd say RatedPeople does not do what it says on the tin. I've had four tradesmen from this website: an absolutely excellent electrician, a reasonably good electrician, a plumber who left everything leaking but was very friendly and ultimately completed the job to a reasonable standard...

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Thanks for these tips! My boiler had a service this morning so I had a look inside to see what was what. I have some of the flexible metal pipes instead of solid plumbing, so it looks slightly different to yours. I am not particularly competent with these things so will get a proper plumber in...

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Yes this is one of the guys I've used in the past. He's very good and doesn't run away when he hears the P word.

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Indeed. I've got a warranty with HeatTeam for the boiler but I haven't used them yet. Failing that I know two reliable PowerMax experts who I'd be able to call on, though they're very expensive (hence the HeatTeam warranty in the first instance).

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Thanks AndyTW! That looks exactly like mine, so I guess I could do the same. Did you do it yourself or get a gas safe guy in to do it?

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Thanks for that information, I guess I'll have to get a valve installed or put up with the radiators being constantly warm. I know I can turn the valves off to mitigate the problem but if I do that then when I actually want the heating on it becomes a bit of a trial to go round and turn each...

    Gravity valve on Powermax

Guys, I have a Powermax boiler which contains a heat store, as you'll be familiar with. The problem is that the radiators get warm whenever the boiler is on, even of the central heating is off. I figured this was a dodgy valve so got HeatTeam in to fix it but upon arrival the guy said...

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

[/url] Aw man I dunno, I come on this forum to get advice on stuff like this :)

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

That's true, it's the hammer action which creates the hole. I guess people are referring to the hardened end on masonry bits which can wear down. I'm assuming that's how it works.

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

Thanks for the help, guys. I managed to get the holes drilled - using a 4mm starter hole then the 7mm seemed to work well. I got three holes out of six fully drilled, reasonably easily, but three only went about 20mm before they gave up. Have I hit stone?!

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

Thanks foxhole, I'm gonna give that a go.

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

Haha, good point. When you say "just take longer", if it isn't working how long should I stand there with the drill spinning in the whole before I call it a day?

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

Thanks ladylola! It's the wall which separates my flat from the next so it could be anything, I'm just assuming concrete, possibly reinforced, but it's definitely masonry of some description. The electrician had a big SDS and went through it like butter, but that was a while ago and I need...

    Drill into concrete without SDS?

Guys, I have an 18V DeWalt hammer drill and need to drill a few 7mm holes into the concrete wall between my flat and the next. I know I need an SDS but I can't afford to buy one for this one project. Is it going to be possible to drill with the DeWalt or should I get a man in? Any tips on...

    Leaking toilet glued to wall

Yes and that one's the mains. To be fair it isn't as much of a crazy angle as it looks in the picture but it's definitely not straight. Anyone who is actually a plumber near Reading fancy a go fixing my toilet?

    Leaking toilet glued to wall

I've got a new waste connector but the plumber has glued the toilet to the wall so I have no way of replacing it :-(

    Leaking toilet glued to wall

The toilet is new, the waste fitting is not.
