Replacing water supply pipe, will it help pressure?

At the moment the mains pressure in my house is quite low. We currently have about 15 meters of 3/4 inch lead supply pipe running from the property boundary to the water meter, and then another meter or so of pipe to the stopcock. The pipe is about 80 years old assuming it is original to the...

    removing a gland

I have an outdoor junction box with several wires connected via glands. I need to remove one of the wires from the junction box as it's redundant. Does anyone know how to seal the hole that is left without replacing the entire box?

Tubular heaters to prevent freezing water pipe in garage

I've got the same problem (considering installing a washing machine inside an unheated garage). I was wondering weather it would be a good idea to put the washing machine in a cupboard insulated with 2" of Kingspan and a small low wattage heater with a thermostat control set just above freezing.

Best type of pipe for a garage?

Thanks for that. If the feed to the garage is underground, how would I drain the pipework lower than the tap? Another (easier to install!) option would be an overhead supply, the gap is about 6'. Perhaps make a plywood box about 6 inch square with the pipe in the middle and filled with...

Best type of pipe for a garage?

Ok, thinking about putting a sink in my garage for cleaning muddy boots etc. One thing which I am worried about though is the pumbing freezing in extreme cold conditions like that expirienced in dec 2010 and flooding the garage. What is the normal practice for installing plumbing in unheated...

    So I Made a Fence

Nice way of fixing the posts, I recently built a car-port and did something simular for the ground fixing although I used 304 stainless steel meaning it should not rust even if stood in standing water. Keeping the post a few cm off the ground should help prevent rot. I don't like concreting...

Unbuilt wall not wanted and issues with planning. Help?!

Normally you would not need planning permission to demolish a wall as it is permitted development but there may be an Article 4 on the house restricting the PD rights (apparently they are quite common for newbuilds). I would recommend you contact your local authority planning department and...

    Mystery pipe

Ok, so I am digging a hole in my driveway as part of a project to add a new gully. I have discovered a mystery pipe and was wondering if anyone here had any idea what it is. It looks like steel and is 18mm in diameter and 150mm deep from the drive surface. At first I thougth it may be the...
