Building a Wall in a Stream - Mortar Mix

What is it your trying to do? Little bit of hydro power like they do in Austria and Norway?

    Ancient weapons..

Was watching a documentary about the Crusades and the Turks there on the way were picking off the Crusader armies after they left Constantinople on the way to the Levant. They had a probably even better bow were they lay on their backs and used their legs to hold the bow and both arms to draw...

    Ancient weapons..

Looking at the original post, for the angry young Arab you wont get much wood around the desert for arrows. Plenty of rocks though. Its the same as why these type of people use the Kalashnikov rather then something more accurate and complicated. The peasant vs the trained pro. Sadly angry...

Too much training required plus some Frenchman would have your two fingers off and your goosed then. You want a crossbow.

    Ancient weapons..

For me literature from that period is much better then these dodgy bearded eccentrics. Usually more graphic as well. Alexiad has great descriptions of battles, ancient mullerings and whatnot.

There must of been a system for getting it out, like the blood channel helps when withdrawing a sword from some poor herbert.

They also nicked empty beer crates with bottles from my previous place, you get a return fee. No chance to practice any medieval warfare there with a spiked drawbridge though.

Demolition of small detached two up, two down

Interesting for me as Im getting a similar sized part of the house demo'd. At least I can argue that if he tries to sting me around £9K I can say its that price in the UK. Any idea what the price of asbestos removal roughly is? Ive got some asbestos plasterboard type things and its probably in...

    Ancient weapons..

In Iraq the locals used to throw a lot of stones at us, Im surprised they dont have decent Cricket bowlers or javelin chuckers some of the distance on it, one even looped about a 100 metres over a wall and landed in the courtyard of the police station I was in, deflected off a tea urn and hit...

    Cottage Reconstruction

Skiing season ended last weekend so its back to the grindstone. Destroyed concrete floor in the future master bedroom today. Previous idiot put road tar and then tar paper underneath the concrete floors, note damp at back corner of 2nd photo.

    Cottage Reconstruction

See ugly square roof extension in background and higher stepped then garage extension both to be demolished, garage as well in time, there is an old workshop behind it and a wine celler dug into the hill/stone wall on the right. Basically the property will be cut back to what it was like pre 1980's.

    I have a cunning plan

Im in a similar boat. Sounds good to me that you thinking about keeping the place well ventilated. Be wary of the concrete floor, I guess its okay if its a big draughty barn but Ive got concrete floors in an old cottage which are keeping the moisture in and preventing the house breathing...

    How old is the house?

Building a Wall in a Stream - Mortar Mix

Jeremy, have a look into Lime mortars. Im using lime(non hydraulic) for an old house reconstruction as its much better then cement in a lot of ways. Ive only found out what I need to know on it for my purposes of rendering, plastering and possibly flooring but Ive seen that Natural...

    Top predator..

Not a predator, but Im a big fan of the deer. Was out cross country skiing at the weekend, startled some from 50 yards and they tore off across the valley and were about a mile away in 10 secs. Incredible speed and bound on them would p**s all over Usain Bolt.

    legal system

The Pistorius case also looks like the police have been fouling up, which might let him off whether he did it or not: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/feb/20/oscar-pistorius-case-police-blunders
