Best method to screw onto top of cabinet?

Hi All. I would like to attach a flat sheet onto the top of an IKEA carcass (laminated MDF??). The carcass consists of a top and bottom with two side panels which are 18mm thick. The side panels are attached to the side edges of the top and bottom thus the width of the entire carcass equals...

WARNING, ALOT OF QUESTIONS! (Screws, General)

Hi All. I have been screwdriving for years but probably have never done anything in the 'proper' way and would like to ask a few questions about this topic. 1) I understand that there are different drill bits that should be used on different types of wood/material, but is there also a case...

    Types of Board Questions

OK, thanks big-all. The offcuts also have the sole plate markings on them, so I could just rub them out as I did before, then try out your suggestions on them.

    Types of Board Questions

Hi FatGit, if you've read any of my threads, you'll realise that I'm a bit slow, so any jokes need explaining! Thanks big all; it's only about a foot to cut, so manoeuvering shouldn't be a problem. No, the saw definitely did not come with a protector; I've never heard of one until you just...

    Types of Board Questions

Hi All. I am pleased to announce that I have finally made the U cuts and I am very happy with them. Thanks for all the help and advice! They have come out almost perfectly smooth and straight. I used a jigsaw with a downcut blade and the straight lines are perfectly straight to the eye...

    Jigsaw blade for laminate curve.

Thanks ModernMaterials. I used the downcut blade I already had and it worked perfectly, even though it was much longer than my saws maximum rated depth of cut. I now however have another problem, for which I've created a new thread. Thanks for all the good advice.

    Jigsaw blade for laminate curve.

Thanks big-all; will bear that in mind when carrying out the job. I plan on practising first on scrap. Don't want to have to buy another whole cabinet!

    Jigsaw blade for laminate curve.

It's for the undersink cabinet discussed in an old thread, so was thinking of a "down cut blade in a jigsaw and a 5mm bead of mastic will hide any dammage" Hmm, I wonder who it was that gave me that advice! Haha. I was going that way until I discovered the other type of blade, but if...

    What length of screws?

Thanks masona; didn't realise a screw could have so many features!! Will get some of these asap.

    Jigsaw blade for laminate curve.

Hi big-all. 'the blade you use depends on how tight the radius is ' One is 10cm and another is 11cm. Thanks.

    Jigsaw blade for laminate curve.

Hi All. As stated in the subject line, I am going to cut a curve in laminated board. As agreed in a previous thread, I was planning on using a downcut blade suitable for laminate, however, I have just come across another type of blade and was wondering which one would be best for the job...

    What length of screws?

Thanks masona, brilliant! I've managed to narrow it down to the second type in the following list because I think it may be softwood (not sure though) and I see the word 'strength'! I also don't need to drive the screws in fast as I am going to do them manually with a normal screwdriver and...

    What length of screws?

Hi All. Didn't know such a simple thing was so hard to describe! I want to screw a 20mm thick plank onto the edge of another piece of wood and at right angles to it. I initially thought that the longer the screw I use, the stronger the fitting would be, however, I got to thinking that if I...

    Circular saw advice

Thanks Deluks, I'll give your suggestion a try but it'll have to be a VERY flat guide; a few ice lolly sticks glued together comes to mind! Whatever method/saw will produce the STRAIGHTEST cut in all directions is what I want to use; it doesn't have to be done with my circular saw. Would that be...

    Circular saw advice

Well Deluks, I've taken your advice and have now managed to practice on some scrap wood (the left over halves of the 2.5" x 2.5" legs that were cut before) Yes I know I said I didn't have anymore questions, but one has come up after my first practice. I've tried setting up the wood with...

    Lilac/Lavender Soap?

Thanks NickStone; appreciate your help. I've come across quite a few lilac coloured candles and haven't ruled them out totally from my plans, but probably will go for flowers in a vase instead. (Sorry to all those hardcore DIY'ers who're having to put up with all this talk about soaps...

    Mirror/Lighting for bathroom

Hi me again! Need some advice on some contradicting advice I've been given. The people who sell the stand-offs say that six 6mm diameter mirror screws will not support a mirror which is 6ft x 2ft. However, a professional DIY person informs me that it should do the job. Who is...
