Central bat v distributed bat emergency lighting opinions

Thanks John I have been asked to design LED luminaires and an emergency backup system for them so I am just grabbing the background info. I don't like the central battery idea but I fear I may be steered down that route by my customer!

Central bat v distributed bat emergency lighting opinions

Not sure if any of you chaps could help me out. I need to gather some real world info on the view of installers and system designers on central battery v distributed battery emergency lighting systems for stairwells and corridors in flats and care homes etc. I have heard that some local...

Replacing a broken marley plain tile

Well i have the replacement tile. The chap in the roofing place said to either grip fill the tile in or use expanding foam. Sounds a bit hacky and nasty to me. Is it the way to go?

    Shower waste pipe run.

A further complication to throw into this is that in an ideal world I would be able to tap into the 2.5m vertical section to take the condensate from a yet to be installed boiler. Would that be possible or are there too many issues with the boiler trap being emptied in this configuration?

Replacing a broken marley plain tile

This probably applies to other tiles too but I have broken marley plain tile that needs replacing. Its on the middle of an area that is hung vertically on the front of the house. Do i have to remove all the tiles above to get to the nail holes for this one? Im guessing not and there must be some...

    Shower waste pipe run.

I'm currently trying to plan the installation of a shower to see if it is viable and I have a few questions regarding the waste run. The nearest soil stack would be 2.5m vertically down from the shower then 3m along one wall turn 90 degs and 2.5m along another wall to a 4" stack that is...

    Stairwell ceiling access...

I need to put up a platform to enable me to sort out a crack in the ceiling over my stairwell. The total span I will need to cover is 2.3m. I've got some newish 4000mm x 225mm x 38mm scaffold boards that I was going to bridge from the top step to a ladder with. The only problem is I'm 6'8"...

Cold roof to warm roof interface...

I guessed that as these are cavity they would provide a higher value of insulation than the double thermolite with no cavity? Or is the difference so minimal its not worth worrying about?

    Ethernet in the consumer unit.

This is only a small part of a large system. They won't mind having another cu box fitted to just be an enclosure for these modules.

    Ethernet in the consumer unit.

Yup L and N connection the data port will be galvanicaly isolated from this by the power supply and the ethernet magnetics. 6.5mm minimum mains to ELV separation across PCB for creepage and clearances. Just got to try and cram all the electronics in and keep those clearances.

    Ethernet in the consumer unit.

Ah very true. Comparing to the doorbell transformer situation I see that bell wire used within the CU should be sleeved up to increase its rating and they just seem to include this in the transformer instructions. Hopefully I can get away with a similar approach or supply a meter or so of...

    Ethernet in the consumer unit.

I'm currently working on a product that in an ideal world would mount in a spare fuseway inside a consumer unit. The only slight issue is that it needs a RJ45 ethernet connection to get the data into and out of it. I was worried if any regs prevent ethernet etc from being inside the CU? I'm...

Cold roof to warm roof interface...

I've got a lean-to style roof along the front of the house part of which is over the garage and the other part is over the hall and WC. The part over the WC is being changed from a cold roof to a warm roof and the ceiling is being changed to a vaulted style. The ceiling in the garage has...

Power Shower, tingling (current?) in pipes.

From looking at the data sheet: http://www.tritonshowers.co.uk/media/11859/as2000xt_thermostatic_ips.pdf Shouldn't there be a dedicated cold feed direct from the cistern and a hot feed tee'd off the cylinder output near to the cylinder? If someone else opens the sink taps while you are...

    Aqualisa Quartz shower isolation...

Cheers guys I have used a switched FCU with a 3A fuse in the airing cupboard with a 5A round pin socket mounted near the mixer in the loft. Then a 5A round pin plug on the end of the mixer power supply lead so that it can be totally disconnected at times of service / replacement! I just...

    Aqualisa Quartz shower isolation...

Quick question about these digital shower things such as the Aqualisa Quartz, basically they are an electronically controlled mixer valve located in the loft with a SELV control switch mounted in the shower enclosure. Should these have a pull cord isolator switch mounted in the room with the...
