Guinnel/alleyway - soundproof large void to neighbours

Hi, We're in the process of getting ready to put up 2 stud walls with insulation and sound board in our first floor bedrooms that adjoin the neighbours as the noise carries. I thought I would lift some floorboards to put some noggins in and some sound insulation whilst at it. The house is...

We're in a 3 story victorian terrace and we want to move my lad to an attic room but need to make some more storage for all his stuff like his board games etc. The room has a dormer window and running parallel is the eaves. I would like to board out a couple of meters worth and box it in and...

timed extractor fan for downstairs toilet

Hi, We need to get retrospective building regs approval and our cloakroom (just toilet and basin). Currently it has a bog standard fan that is controlled with the light switch cord. We need to replace this with a timed one to meet the regs. Looking on the net it seems timed extractor...

Building regs - is PIR right form

spoke to the building regs today after a bit of email tennis - our initial application was for installing some RSJs and a downstairs toilet. The building regs just want the form for any electrics associated to that application so it is the cloakroom toilet and fan (I need to get the fan...

Combi pressure too high - can it blow a push fit pipe?

doubt it, can't see at the mo due to no light! Wouldn't claim against installers, they were good blokes. We'll just take on chin but might check the other towel rads that were chrome too!. Was thinking of lifting that floor anyway to put some sound insulation in and some noggins for a stud to...

Combi pressure too high - can it blow a push fit pipe?

Lifted the toilet floor and bedroom floor and sodden underneath. Found the guilty joint, the push fitting connecting a towel rail had totally come off. Will need to call the guys who installed the boiler/central heating to look at the F22 fault so will ask them about the push fitting...

Combi pressure too high - can it blow a push fit pipe?

0.2 bar and that is the same as before the water was added. The F22 fault says dry fire and it can be low pressure caused by a small leak or problem with pump. The F22 is secondary concern now, just wondering if I need to lift the floor. Rang our insurance and they said this is classed as...

Combi pressure too high - can it blow a push fit pipe?

Hi, we have a valient boiler and it has a F22 code on it, which means dry fire. When we get this my missus normally opens the valve and puts more water in. Today that didn't work so tried to ring the installer. There was no answer so unknown to me she put more in. The result is we have a lot...

    chimney liner on victorian terrace

Hi we are considering putting in a log burner if we stay in our current house so imagine we would need the chimney lining. There are 3 floors that the liner would need to run down. We would be looking to do this say in a year or two as would need to save up. Before this though in our 1st...

Soundproof party wall and fitted wardrobe.

cheers for the reply, so really a stud wall, unattached to the party wall and a wardrobe and it will likely make a good difference. And for the flanking noise I would just have to hope for the best or is there any method to stop the vibrations just coming along that wall? Cheers :-)

Soundproof party wall and fitted wardrobe.

Hi, we live in a terraced house and our neighbours are students and our 4 bedrooms share the party wall. I'm not sure if single brick or double but in the evening and night time noise carries. Mostly they aren't a bad bunch and don't make excessive noise - but it is the everyday noise like late...

    Home network

Thanks for the useful advice. I went out and bought myself a netgear switch and some ethernet cables and hey presto my PC now works in the attic wired up. I've left my dlink router coing off my master socket with a cable going into my cat5 socket. This routes to my patch panel where I hooked in...

    Home network

Hi and apologies if this is the wrong forumas I know it isn't hardware but I'm after some advice. We had our house rewired so had cat5 run through the house with a couple of points in each room. The house is over 3 stories and the plan was to have the hub housing on the 3rd floor and the BT...

Whirlpool 6th sense washer - no power and door won't open

Cheers for your comments. It was a door lock issue. Before seeing your post I stumbled on another site that sugessted that it might be the issue. I removed the top of the washing machine and looked down the inside of the front panel on the right hand side. There is the latch and nothing...
