concealed lever flush cistern / condensation issues

Got really bad condensation on a concealed cistern in an internal toilet (not great ventilation). Water dripping off it, thought it was a leak! it;s been going on a while. Its ruining the wall on the other side, that's going to be re-plastered after the damp source is stopped. I've seen you...

Painting on skimmed wall which had silk paint - will it be ok?

many thanks, its still drying. the plaster skim is sound. Maybe worrying about nothing, I had visions of the skim peeling off when roller painting! Will stick to breathable paint, just needed a second opinion. I won't make the same mistake again!

Painting on skimmed wall which had silk paint - will it be ok?

o.k i should have read up before doing it. Basically just skimmed a room, which had a horrible silk emulsion paint, couldn't take it off easily at all (would have been from 40 years ago if it makes a difference) I just did a couple of coats of pva prior to skimming. I should have used Febond...

Very bad rising damp, who to call to diagnose

Hi, just some advice please - I have a business / property (Cambridgeshire) bought recently which is essentially 3 properties, which 40 years ago from looking at plans I have been given, had the floors concreted internally and really knocked around with major structural work to change it to a...

Heating setup for hotel / multiple showers

The problem is there is a fault, and the concern is the hot water could fail completely so the time isn't there to get a consultant in. The plumbing firms who both do commercial installs, and spent a week specing it up say megaflow and gas fired water cylinders are as good as each other. I was...

Heating setup for hotel / multiple showers

Resurrecting an old thread - The situation with the 2000l cylinder (not 4000l as I originally estimated) is that is has a leaking coil. Pressure doesnt go above 0.5 Bar. Some quotes have come in. One is for a couple of new boilers and a couple of 800l megaflow cylinders the other for a gas...

Heating setup for hotel / multiple showers

The missing insulation on once end of the cylinder is something I'm going to address. Its not a proper "drying room" by any means so it is wasted heat. Gas dryers are on the horizon along with in sourcing the laundry The Gas pipe diameter is huge, as is the meter - around 65mm diameter (19.5...

Nosing / plastic strips on stairs curl on edges

Hi, we have metal nosing on the stairs of a business, and on the top of the steps there is around 2 inch plastic strip from the rounded nosing edge and the carpet. It was fitted some years ago, and some of these plastic strips has curled slightly on the edges and they are a trip hazard. Is...

    Gas Dryer query

Hi, I'm looking at a new dryer and am considering a gas dryer which from what I read are cheaper long term. Can someone clarify what is normal for gas dryers? As in, where I'd probably want it, is on an external wall, and not too far from the gas supply (15mm) for the cooker. Would the Gas...

Replacing a Tube light with LED light

Can I just take that block off? I've never seen one with 4 wires off one end. I didn't know what that blue thing was either, connecting neutral to earth?

Replacing a Tube light with LED light

Hi I wonder if anyone can advise. I was asked to change an old tube light in a rels small business with an LED one. Simple enough I thought, 2 wire switch but opening it up it looks more complicated. Can anyone advise? The brown wire and white go into the ballast. The blue wire off the...

    upvc window handle not working

Yes they have worked in the past. I may need to call a window person - I don't understand how you're meant to get at anything if the window mechanism is closed and the handle does not do anything!

    upvc window handle not working

Hi, I have a couple of UPVC windows, where the top smaller windows don't open. One of them the handle lifts up and down but if you try and push the window it remains locked, so the handle isn't engaging the locking mechanism, and the other one opens and closes but the bit you put the key in...
