Can you install a new consumer unit without upgrading all?

I get that the water and gas bonding would normally be easy, but there are metres of concrete between the electricity meter and gas meter and I thought sparks would insist on the cable going all the way to the gas meter (the spark I had refused to just bond to the pipes under the nearest...

Can you install a new consumer unit without upgrading all?

I completely understand that if there is a power loss/leak etc that prevents the RCD from operating without tripping then that would have to be fixed. But, I already had an inspection and test done a year ago and the only faults they discovered were the bonding and socket on skirting. However...

Can you install a new consumer unit without upgrading all?

Hi, I have an old wylex fuse board and want to upgrade it to RCD for some extra protection now that children are staying with me. Unfortunately there will still be a couple of areas where my electrics will remain sub-regulations - gas and water bonding; and a socket in the kitchen being on...

    Pendant/Rose-fitting to Fluorescent tube adapter?

Hi, I hope I can explain this well. In my old house I used to have a ceiling rose pendant light next to a tube light. There was only one supply/switch and on those rare occasions when we would need a bright fluorescent light, we could just remove the bulb and fit the pendant into a similar...

    My wall is becoming transparent!

Hello all. I am decorating a room and I noticed that I can see the outline of the breezeblocks on one wall of my room. I attach a piccie (I hope you can see it, it is faint). The outlines of the bricks are a faint darker colour. Can I just add a new coat of paint? or should I reskim...

    Is my electrician Part P?

How about the cowboy? Diligence is certainly no guarantee. Not by a long way. And not everybody has friends or contacts in the trades. My point is that all the due dilligence is just a strategy that has come about as a way to minimise the chances of getting a bad one. It does not excuse or...

Condensation damp, bubbling, - replaster or just skim? pic

Hello all, I have a room which used to have a small roof leak which has now been fixed. I ripped the false cieling away and found condensation damp (pic). It seems dryer now so the leak might have sorted it. My question is - should i just clean, reskim and paint or do I need to chip back the...
