Door / Window close to corners of house

OK, I'll create some rough drawings and start a new thread to ask for help. I'd appreciate some more guidance before paying for a structural engineer. Thanks for the advice so far!

    Vaillant 837 / 937

I realise that, my concern is that the 937 pre-heats the 15l storage while the 837 doesn't. Without a high hot water demand (in summer) I'd be wasting energy with a 937.

Door / Window close to corners of house

665mm, minus the 250mm wall thickness is about 415mm. Can anything be done to lessen this? Maybe a brick pillar 250mm x 250mm in the corner? Yes, but they don't like getting involved to answer questions when I don't really know what I want :) What I can and can't do under the building regs...

    Vaillant 837 / 937

As it mixes the stores with water to maintain the high flow it'll be even more waste for a house that doesn't have a high hot water demand. Looks like I'll be going for the 837 then.

Door / Window close to corners of house

I'd read the relevant regulations, but no doubt I'd be more confused than when I started, so thought I'd ask instead :) What are the rules concerning how close a window / door can be placed to the corner of a house? The house is brick/block with a cavity so walls are around 25cm thick...

    Easy Question

Trying to achieve the same thing with email is a different process and you will be at the mercy of the email client at the other end to display it correctly. Personally, I think it's far better to include a huge link (on a new line normally) rather than hiding it behind an alias. Pasting the...

    Vaillant 837 / 937

Next year I plan on replacing my current gas boiler with a combi capable of running a decent pressure shower and not being too badly affected by someone filling the sink or washing their hands. There are many boilers I could choose, but I like the Vaillant boilers (neighbour has one). Can...

    Efficient Heating Setup (temporary solution)

After seeing my gas bill that is exactly the reason I've started pulling my CH system apart! Have to see if I have enough water flow, gas pressure and pennies to replace it with a Vaillant 937 or 837 next year. :)

    Efficient Heating Setup (temporary solution)

I have an old Ideal Mexico floor standing boiler running CH. The CH system consists of a single pipe system with one loop upstairs and one down. The downstairs loop is below floor level and powers floor level radiators. For various reasons I've removed the downstairs loop while I install...

    Repairing Parquet Flooring

So it could turn out to be a lot of work if the sander loosens more blocks. That doesn't bother me so much as long as I can get a good finish. The finish is also going to depend on how much I can lighten the dark wood. Can anyone recommend a product for this? Even if it's as crude as...

    Repairing Parquet Flooring

Entire downstairs of the house has 35 year old parquet flooring which had been covered entirely in carpet when I moved in. Since removing the carpet I'm thinking of restoring the parquet, but am unsure if I will be able to create a decent finish. It's a dark wood (will post picture if...

How to keep the cats in the garden?

I've heard that stringing fishing line a few inches above the fence panels can prevent cats walking along the fence. Something about them not being able to cross their front legs as they normally do, but I've never tried it or seen it in action. I doubt it would stop them jumping over the...

    Mozilla vs Internet Explorer

It gets discussed quite a lot elsewhere - http://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+versus+internet+explorer A lot of users try another browser when IE starts to fail for them. Change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing, but if IE is lacking a feature you want it's almost certain...

    which encryption program ?

I agree, all the windows users in work use truecrypt to protect customer data they've downloaded onto their laptop. You can allocate a chunk of disk space for the encrypted volume to use. Mount it as a new drive (e.g. z drive) and use it just like the c drive.

    Multi Powered Heating System

OK, so about £300 for one of these mixers. I could put all the inputs into the thermal store and have it power a the central heating pipework then? I'll do some more reading ... In my naive understanding I thought I may be able to get away with some electronically controlled 3 way valves -...

    Multi Powered Heating System

I live in a 4 bedroom house with a gas boiler (Stelrad Group Ideal Mexico) powered central heating system. Downstairs is fitted with low level radiators and upstairs with slim solid radiators (no fins). The boiler is 30 years old, but has been serviced regularly by previous owners. The...
