    plumbing into a detached garage

Is your house attached to the garage at all? From your description so far it sounds like the garage is not attached and the outside tap is the closest thing. EDIT - just re-read the title of the thread, of course it's detached, doh! Someone who understands building regulations could advise...

    posting a pic?

What aweful advice! If you do do that, certainly don't broadcast it to anyone. It's not unheard of for people running forums to try your username/password combination elsewhere - your photobucket account is probably meaningless, but your bank account, your amazon account, your ebay...

HOW TO POST A PICTURE ON THE FORUM.

No matter how easy, quick or free it is to register it's annoying to have to register when all you want to do is upload an image quickly. http://www.imageshack.us/ is pretty much the same process without the need to register. Small delay in loading as it's US based, but...

    my laptop won't start up

If your laptop has lost/corrupted some bootup files your HDD may well be on the way out. If you do manage to get it started up again I'd suggest you don't turn it off until you've copied off everything that is important (work/photos/music/etc). I have a dell laptop with a similar issue so I...

    Cutting Pipes (in tight spaces)

[/url] I ended up getting that and it's so much better than the other one I had where you had to tighten the blade every couple of turns. 20 seconds and you have a clean cut - now I just need to improve my soldering technique! :)

    Treatment of tradesmen (or tradeswomen!)

Whenever I have a plumber, electrician, plasterer, etc .. around to do work I always make the effort to offer them a drink and talk to them like an equal, not the hired help. Back at the start of the year the plasterer was around for a few days so I got talking to him more. I was horrified...

    plumbing into a detached garage

You need to locate the closest hot and cold pipes to the garage and then decide the best/easiest route for the new pipework - you don't mention where abouts the garage is in relation to the kitchen or other rooms. Don't forget you need drainage as well.

    Repointing after leak

Finally found the problem with the leak was to do with an aerial next door had installed! They ran cabling down the gutter causing the water to follow the cable and dribble down the wall into a badly damaged brick. :( Any advice on how to do the repointing work - the removing old mortar...

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

OK, he was 117320. Not in the sense he crafted a vent out of old baked bean cans! The boiler sits in an unused chimney and I asked about venting upwards rather than through the wall. He couldn't get a flue of the right type/length (out of stock), so through the wall it went.

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

I don't think it's right to display people's personal details without their consent. The address on the log book shows his house, which I believe he still own. The old boiler packed in and I assume the new flue didn't coincide with the old flue hole. I do remember something about him not...

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

Hmmm, you are confirming my suspicions the installer was not very compentent or in the habit of carrying out shoddy work! They've now relocated to Spain still owing me half a days work :( I have no idea how an installation sheet should have been filled out, just like the majority of the...

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

I never said it was new, it's actually 5 years old! What's more shocking is that it's taken this long for me to notice the over sized hole. I must have lost the part mentioned in above posts, otherwise I need some glasses

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

You think I did this to my own house! :P It was one of those who dare to call themselves a plumber!

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

Boiler is a baxi combi 80e. Assuming part C. is pretty standard, would I be able to pick one up from a plumbing supplies shop if I know the vent size?

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

The first picture shows a silver coloured rubber ring which slots over the vent, is that what you mean or am I missing a piece?

    Filling around Boiler Flue Hole

No doubt a stupid question, but I wanted confirmation I'm not going to cause problems ... Here is the vent where you can see the cover doesn't come close to coverting the hole! Without the cover you can see the big hole at the top and hardly anything at the bottom. I can't get...

    Repointing after leak

    Repointing after leak

Yesterday I noticed water seeping out of a power socket in the kitchen! After inspecting the wall behind I see the leak is inline with the gutter downpipe and the gutter is so blocked water would be forced down the wall. First job is to clear the gutters and get some mesh guard to give...
