    Pier supporting steel

Do you mean its pointless because the beam can just sit on the wall thats just behind where the pier/column/post is going? I know now after a dig that wall on on a 300mm wide foundation. Not sure how deep as Ive only gone down 200mm ish. And the foundation was about 200mm below the oversight...

    Pier supporting steel

Ok thanks. On a new 600x600x400 pad. Unfortunately the existing Foundation there is only about 300mm wide so there a bit of extra work I reckon. Well it's it's our own house so I'm not sure if Pl is any good. Although it would help with the hire in plant insurance. I was thinking of starting a...

    Pier supporting steel

I think youre talking about beam5 blue X? The architect forgot!! to draw that wall on the proposed plan and that threw the S/E a bit. I explained to him that the wall behind the stairs was staying and can we make beam 5 shorter and put beam 5 on that. The pier/column Im stuck on is the red X...

    Pier supporting steel

Im trying to work out how to attach things in a message and id send the drawing to you. I would put it on here but the engineer might not be happy making it public. its not in an extension though. Just removing a load bearing wall. Havent got a clue. The steel is 152x152x37kg/m UC 195kg. above...

    Pier supporting steel

Do you mean that once it has a steel on it it is no longer considered isolated? Fair enough but at the point it's being built it won't have the steel sitting on it. I don't think I've ever heard that. Is there a technical difference between a pier and a column?

    Pier supporting steel

Thanks woody. A) would be my preference, so that would be good. I should have said it's an isolated pier. I meant what bond for the pier not which way to attach it. Yes specified. A post is a possibility but this way there's more room for Tolerance. IMO.

    Pier supporting steel

Hello. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about this? I've got to build a pier as suggested by a structural engineer. It's 7n blocks 340x215. I'm not sure if that means the longest dimension should be width or length ways in regards to the steel it's holding up. Also not sure if there's a...

    Keeping/using existing oversite.

Not sure if this will help but I once put in an application stating I intended to have oversite then DPM then insulation then screed. But changed my mind between pouring the oversite and the next stage. So The inspector said I could lay 8 inch joists on the oversite, and fill in between with 8...

    The cement an other shortages

According to the websites the sheds around here have no cement. Maybe some areas are worse than others. The local ready mixed firm say they are business as usual. £93.50 plus vat per cubic meter. I can't remember what I paid the last time. So don't know if it's gone up?

    The cement an other shortages

Theres probably already a thread on this but wonderd if anyone has any knowlege about it. Not so much why its happened by has anyone heard if theres any light at the end of the tunnel. Also any ideas about other materials that are likely to become scarce? Cheers

Deeper retaining wall in front of existing one.

Be easier to get a new Mrs. I saw a video on a situation similar to this on utube a while ago by (i think) Stanley dirt monkey.

Apparently a polyurethane based one is best. Ive not used any but if you find one let us know. Hopefully someone might recommend a good brand and supplier.

Getting by until the Electrician turns up

Thanks for replies. It was the electrician that told me what to do. But he talks fast so I thought I'd double check on here. I've got one of those pen shaped testers and the plug thing that tells you if a sockets wired up properly, made by GAP. I figured I'd make the circuit short as possible...

    Can anyone identify these hatchings?

A planning application and now building regs. He thinks that as the walls are 200mm and not 300mm I should have realised they were timber. I wasn't checking to see if one wall was a few mm thinner with a scale rule. Plus, this was the planning stage and he'd not followed the brief so there was a...
