I bought an electric shower from Plumbworld over the internet back in August. Arrived promptly, installed it, working fine.

I am considering doing the OLCI plumbing course. Has anyone done it, or is doing it? Any comments/suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Thanks for the advice

I used a simple circuit tester. I assume the spark will use something more sophisicated like a multimeter when he checks it tomorrow.

    Thanks for the advice

I did very simple diy testing to check:- 1. that there was no current between the earth & live on each circuit, 2. with all light switches turned off and appliances unplugged, there was no current between the live & neutral, 3. with the power on, double checked the polarity, and 4...

    Pulling the service fuse

I'm making the preparations for installing a new split load cu. Before I do this I am going to install an isolator between the meter & the existing cu. I'm ready to pull the service fuse (existing cu isolator off, gloves and goggles on, alternative source of light on, lead seal cut), but as I...

    100 amp isolator

Thanks Plugwash for the web links. I could contact the rec and see if they will do it, but there again, the hardware isn't that expensive and I'm up for the satisfaction of doing the job myself. ( Also more convenient than taking time off work to let them in!)

    100 amp isolator

Thanks I'm still having trouble finding an isolator in an on-line store. Plenty of sites selling cu's and mcb's but cant find any isolators

    100 amp isolator

If I install isolator, then I can get the service fuse back in sooner. Also, I haven't decided which side of the split load cu to put the cooker, central heating and immersion on yet, and I may change one or more of them over after installation. I would rather completely isolate the cu, but...

    100 amp isolator

Want to install 100 amp isolator switch between meter & consumer unit prior to installing new cu. I am having trouble finding an on-line electrical store which sells isolators. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Heavy Duty Anchors

I am fixing a heavy wooden sign to outside brickwork and will be using heavy duty anchors. I am familiar with plastic wall plugs for fixing screws to walls. Do I simply put the metal anchor into an appropiately sized hole in the wall in the same wall as wall plugs? Thanks.

    Planning new CU

Thanks for your advice- I like the idea of the freezer on its own non rcd radial. The earth system is PME and the smoke detectors are battery run. There is no isolator between the meter and the cu, so if I'm going to change the cu myself ( haven't decided for sure yet) I will carefully pull...

    Planning new CU

I'm planning to replace my old cu (re-wirable fuses, no rcd) with a new split load one. Obviously I'm going to put the ring and electric shower circuits on the rcd side, but what about the immersion, cooker and central heating? I've looked at other split load cu's and some have these 3...
