    Garden Hose Nozzle Recommendation...

I just bought a couple of the BWF26 Spear & Jacksons as mentioned by ETAF above, and they have a very nice & solid feel - and have a brass fitting. Was going to get just one, but saw Zoro gave free delivery over £20 so I got two as effectively the second one was half price :)

    Garden Hose Nozzle Recommendation...

I’m praying you get some good answers here as I’m yet another in the same predicament :( Seems the general opinion is to go with brass fittings but with things like the spray gun l’m not so sure brass ones can do all the spray patterns. My local store wanted £30 !!! for a hozelock sprayer, and...

Metal Double Socket - replaced but safe?

Non-contact testers are not the best way of testing, and are not recommended by the IET. What you’re getting is just an “alarm” that live electric is close-by. You’ll get exactly the same when moving close to a L terminal on a plastic socket. These devices are not accurate, not entirely to be...

    Split virgin broadband

I don't know about Tivo's but maybe first try and see if it's ethernet port is active and is providing an output by plugging in a laptop with a short ethernet cable and see if you can get internet pages.. then check the TV has ethernet connection input too. If so on both, then the powerline...

    Split virgin broadband

Ah... I'm not familiar with Tivo but assume it's like a satellite box. Can you not get instead a long satellite cable and possibly a barrel connector (for connecting plug to plug where it joins)?

    Split virgin broadband

You should be able to use a couple of powerline adapters assuming you have ethernet ports on the router and whatever device (TV?) you're trying to connect to in the new room - or a long CAT5 cable.

How am I supposed to tighten these tails going into Basin monobloc?

I think they're only meant to be hand tight. A bit scary as I had one like that recently but it all seems to be OK. They should say in the book though what's recommended.

Type of wiring to record on an EIC cert

Hi On the EIC, in the Generic Schedule of Circuit Details section it requires the "type of wiring" to be recorded in the conductor details section. When there is a change of wiring type what do people put there please? - i.e the short length of T&E or the bulk of the route as SWA? I have 2.5mm...

    What are these?

Windscreen wipers from the space shuttle. Not to worry, they fall off quite frequently :)

    PME export to outbuilding

Thanks for all your help everyone and the clear explanations :) I'm just about also to change the RCD to an A type rather than AC to be sure it can trip as there's a lot of electronic gear both in circuit and likely to be plugged in. Cheers all !!!

    PME export to outbuilding

If it's not possible to convert to PME, would a Zs of 16 ohms on the sockets be acceptable though? They're on a 32A MCB and using a 30mA RCD. Regs book seems to suggest that 1667 ohms is the max Ze (although recommended not higher than 200 ohms). Earth faults would be taken care of by the RCD...

    PME export to outbuilding

Hi Sunray - that's encouraging to start with about the glands :) I thought about another rod, current one is about 4M from a river and knocked 8 feet down - so likely to be well in the water table. I'm guessing I'd need at least 6 of these the same to bring the value of Ze down to something more...

    PME export to outbuilding

Hi, I’ve got a brick built outbuilding as an annex next to the main house (not physically attached) and I’d like to think about converting it from TT to PME. Main house is TN-C-S and the buildings are connected with 25M of 3-core 16mm SWA (one core currently unused). However there’s an external...

Post the best photo you took today

I took one of my electric meter readings - but a day late as they’d done an estimate yesterday anyway :(

    Help identifying hardcore

Thanks John that makes a lot of sense now and after looking up clunch and cob walls it seems a lot of churches are built from it (?) and the material is common in eastern England which is where I am. Yes top layer will be hoggin with a mixture of fines, and will be whackered down without...

    Help identifying hardcore

Hi, I've got garden people laying down some pathways, and the hardcore they're using is causing me a little concern. I wanted to identify what it is and if it's suitable for the job. They reckon it'll go rock hard when dried, and called it clunch (or something like that!). It has a chalky...

    Earth rod clamp not tight

Ahhh yes Sunray, I see now! These clamps only seem to make 2 points of contact with the rod and a wide gap all around, probably enough to take a decent current though. I think the general opinion is to go back to the solid brass clamps as others have mentioned above as I guess even with the one...

    Earth rod clamp not tight

Thanks Eric, that's the kind I used but on an inspection (when I changed the temporarily wrapped wires to a proper crimp) I noticed mine had sheared in half on the bend and was loosely sitting there. Maybe a random manufacturing fault possibly as I didn't need to overbend it when fitting as the...

    Earth rod clamp not tight

Hi I've installed a 5/8" earth rod but the clamp isn't fitting very tightly, am I missing something? - see my picture. Cable is 16mm if that matters and the clamp is a Unistrand brand for 5/8" rods - the original Screwfix clamp sheared in half without my knowledge :( I tightened the bolt up as...

    Flexi pipe leaking mid way

Oh blimey, maybe I should have put a radiator on that wall and the bog somewhere else! Thanks very much for all your replies guys. Seems maybe I could swing that outlet by 90deg and maybe then have some room inside the boxing to deal with getting rigid bends or a heated bent pipe to get...
