Avoiding noise and smells when making waste for dishwasher?

(I couldn’t add the “thanks” to you Hugh, it’s greyed out so no hard feelings but thank you all the same!)

Avoiding noise and smells when making waste for dishwasher?

Thanks everyone for all your replies, looks like standpipe wins 3/3 so that’s what it’ll be. I’d have to chop it down to about 21” above trap water level but assume that’s ok? I’ll obviously ensure the flexi pipe doesn’t jump out or dip into the trap water. cheers, Dave.

Avoiding noise and smells when making waste for dishwasher?

Hi all I’m installing a new kitchen and wondered what the best way is to do the waste outlet for the dishwasher. It’s a fitted kitchen therefore limited space behind appliances/cabinets. As the kitchen/lounge are open plan I’m very keen to avoid smells (drain smell / stagnant water) and sink...

How do I get these bulbs out?

That inner bezel looks like it should turn, have you tried that?

Wet pressure testing for too long?

Just to update….. the main problem seems to be where the 3/4-to-15mm reducers meet the shower valve, these just screw in without olives or washers. I cleaned them all off and remade the connections - STILL leaking!!! Third time I repeated and put only Locktite 55 in the threads - PERFECT! I was...

Wet pressure testing for too long?

Thanks for all your info and help guys and the links are very useful. At least I know the sections which didn’t leak will be bullet proof! I’m going to re-do the joints that did leak, as in my mind I think that if water has found a route out that it would be a weakened spot. Most was around the...

Please recommend an alarm / warning device

Actually apologies have just realised that one has the siren combined with the detector so you might want to see if they have an alternate model where the siren could be in your house.

Please recommend an alarm / warning device

Ahhh that’s a shame, I guess if there’s absolutely no way of getting a cable there then you’ll be stuck with wifi. To me the one you found looks a bit too cheap and wouldn’t give me confidence. Perhaps as an alternate to the one you found what about this one -...

Please recommend an alarm / warning device

Hi, I wouldn’t trust the quoted range of that wireless one in your link, and would be very wary of other quoted distances especially if solid objects like brick walls are in the way. You obviously want to be reliably alerted if there’s ever a problem and wireless over that distance (and not...

Wet pressure testing for too long?

Hello So I’ve plumbed a new bathroom in 15mm copper and Speedfit and wanted to test it out…. I’ve got a Rothenberger RP30 and done a wet test at 5bar for 24hrs. All seemed good. Then I increased it to 10 bar pressure for the second 24hrs and the next morning found loads of small weeps...

Dry lining on wonky wall and order of materials

Hi Mr Chibs Thanks for your reply. I was going to use moisture resistant p/board but then decided on the ply as it'll be better hanging things from and as a bonus the offcuts will be used on the floor! I think you're right in saying ply on top of the insulation and it'll also mean less fixing...

Dry lining on wonky wall and order of materials

Hi I'm going to be dry lining a brick wall for a bathroom, and wondered if anyone had some advice about any part of what I'm going to be doing? The brick wall is external and non-cavity, and on the inside I plan to fit battens, ply, celotex and then put 10mm plastic wall boards up. So far I've...

Cannot pull pipes far enough apart for solvent weld fitting

Thanks so much for the replies chaps! The compression fitting sounds like the easiest way out, I was just concerned about the rush of water and sudden high pressure (e.g. emptying bath) might blast through the rubber seals as I've normally only used these on sink wastes. Bath is about 3ft...

Cannot pull pipes far enough apart for solvent weld fitting

Hi guys I've got 3 existing solvent weld pipes (2", 2", 1.5") coming from an upstairs bathroom, through a cemented hole in the wall and dropping down into a 4" horizontal (slight slope of course) that runs along the top of a corridor, then drops outside. The smaller pipes join the 4" with...
