    Opening out chimney breast.

Hi all, Started knocking out our kitchen today, begrudgingly. Pivotal to what we want to do in the kitchen is open out this chimney breast, build it out slightly (stud) and put a free standing 90cm range in the middle. On taking off the plaster, I was surprised to find the solider...

Hopefully the bit that's passing through the evil thermal insulation hasn't burst into flames?

It would be quite interesting to see the effect of passing it through 50mm of thermal insulation

    Some questions for BT guys.

Thanks very much for replying, that's really useful. BT wise, what I was hoping to do was to pull back the cable that I found the active pair on and terminate it into an IDC type box, then have BT provide me two ISDN lines and also an analogue line (for dedicated broadband and possibly fax...

    Some questions for BT guys.

Hello, First of all apologies in advance, this is going to be a hard to describe post! Basically, we are in the process of moving into a new business premises. Somewhere between the previous guys leaving and us having some building works done, all the BT wiring has been literally ripped...

    very hot 13 amp plugs

To be honest, for me to call it rubbish is probably a bit unfair. Our workshop is miserably cold in the winter (not great in the summer either) Its also a big wide open space, I bet I'd be a lot more impressed if I ran the heater in a small enclosed room. I bet when I have mine on the...

    What caused this?

Had something weirdly similar to this happen at work on Thursday, but this was on a 230v extension reel, the lad using it was unreeling it (plugged in, switched on  ) when it went with a loud bang and he threw it on the floor. On inspection there looked like there had been an Arc...

    very hot 13 amp plugs

I have a 3kW Honeywell fan heater at work, the plug gets very warm on that, I've not touched the pins because it didn't seem like a good idea. The sockets in my work area are all metalclad wired in tri-rated singles, last time I inspected the socket there were no signs of over heating...

    Testing a three phase supply

Sounds like you could do with a set of drawings, what is the make and model, maybe they are available online. Presumably there is a contactor responsible for this motor, if so have you verified that the contactor is operating when it should be? With a voltmeter check both sides of the...

Saw this and thought of you

P.S. The two conductors coming out of the c25 have no continuity, they do look like they were originally a ring final circuit but someone has obviously put a stop to that along the way. Also nice discrimination between the single pole C63 and the main switch / triple pole mcb
