Difficulty Measuring for uPVC Window (Photos)

Pffft .. thermal bridges .. our house is solid brick its just as cold with the windows open as it is closed in the winter. Hehe. I've ordered the window. If it doesn't fit I'll swear a lot, smash it and just leave the wooden board over the hole. I quite like the squatters look anyway. :P

Difficulty Measuring for uPVC Window (Photos)

Thanks SO much for your reply. Can you tell me what you mean by 15MM add ones? Did you mean add ons and if so what are they? I'm a competent DIYer and and not to phased by this so long as I have researched. :)

Difficulty Measuring for uPVC Window (Photos)

Hi Guys, I removed a VERY rotten old window today and hadn't realised just how deep it was into the walls. Can anyone help me figure out how to measure and install a new window. I was going to order online and fit myself. Please see attached picture. Is it acceptable to make a brick window...

TRV4 "Presetting Key" to balance with lock shields open?

BTW someone needs to invent self balancing valves. I've spent years trying to get ours balanced. TRV4 certainly doesn't self balance. Even I know this and I'm a mere DIY dick head.

TRV4 "Presetting Key" to balance with lock shields open?

Massive thumbs up to Drayton. I emailed them at 6:45 and get a response before 8:30am and they are sending them in the post free. Hopefully they will come tomorrow and I can get this done. Next task is to try and figure out the radiator order... I swear it splits down in more than one place...

TRV4 "Presetting Key" to balance with lock shields open?

I'm not really that bothered. Our house is solid brick and cold. I never managed to heat the house up above 19 degrees unless wood burner is on. Radiators are either on off depending if we have visitors coming. Prior to this 50% of our rads had ancient TRVs that didn't work so even with the...

TRV4 "Presetting Key" to balance with lock shields open?

I'll see if I can blag some from Drayton. £20 inc delivery is stupid. They should come with them!! Surely pence to make. I spent £100 on 10 wax Drayton TRVs today. As they break I'll upgrade the heads with TRV4. In the mean time I'm going to try lock shield balancing using 11 degree temp drop...

TRV4 "Presetting Key" to balance with lock shields open?

Hi, I've spent FAR too much time messing with the 22 radiators in my house over the last five years. Some are hot some are cold.. I have seriously struggled to balance it all up. Can't believe I've only just found out that you can keep all lock shields fully open and balance with the Drayton...

Water down masonry paint as primer? (Photo)

Hi all! :) I have channeled out some exterior render to hide TV cables which I cemented back over the top. Before I paint over it with masonry paint do you think it's ok to prime it with watered down masonry paint? If so what ratio of water to paint should I use? (I have Sandtex paint) If...

Thanks. I'll get in touch with a contract plasterer in the new year. I found one in Stevenage who are very established.

    Restoring Victorian Windows

Hi All, Can anyone make any recommendations for professional Victorian window restoration? Loads of the glass panels are smashed and the beam at the bottom is rotten now. I just wondered how I go about finding a professional to restore them as I'll cock it up. This photo doesn't do it justice...

    Advice: Getting pros to rerender

Hi All, I have a detached house (converted victorian school) that has typical render on a mix of brick and breeze block. A great deal of it is cracked, blown and looks terrible. We also have damp spots in the inside walls. I think about 1/2 the house needs to be stripped off and redone. How...

[Photo] 3 Years+ Sewage Smells in the house (man hole to fill)

I think that was in my imagination. I have to say that in the last 10 days we haven't had any smells at all. Still too early to assume this is resolved but so far so good. Maybe I won't burn the house down after all.

[Photo] 3 Years+ Sewage Smells in the house (man hole to fill)

Smoke test didn't reveal anything. I've fixed the soil pipe in the roof though. Use a bit of chain oil to lube the joints on. Maybe I'll give it a few weeks and see if that's helped. If the old one leaked, smells could have been coming in there. HUGE thanks too all of you for all your advice...
