What is regulation re siting gas cooker near opening window?

The question's in the subject title really. Putting gas range against new stud wall in converted garage at right angles to original opening window. I've searched and read loads, and 300mm seems to be recommended.....or should that be 'regulated'..... but then it doesn't seem to matter...

Which type of Internal door to be painted white.

If you're painting them white, and if hanging yourself, the oak will cost noticeably more, be lost when you paint it, be heavier to hang (you may need 3 hinges, top two nearer to each other than bottom one)~, and cutting out for locks, handles will be harder. Most mainstream doors these days...

Which board to tile onto inside gas cooker alcove?

OK- Thanks for this. Quite liked the design in the picture, but all you say make sense. I guess I shouldn't be swayed by kitchen designers.....

Which board to tile onto inside gas cooker alcove?

This is the type of layout. Only difference is sidewalls running straight down to floor. http://www.diynot.com/network/RRRRRR/albums/

Which board to tile onto inside gas cooker alcove?

Yes- as you see in the brochures where there is a side wall about 2/3 down the left and right, and there's a chimney breast above with a canopy hood extractor- a standard layout for a 'range' cooker. At the moment, there's a gap of about 28mm between the studs and the cooker sides to allow for...

Which board to tile onto inside gas cooker alcove?

Hi- I've built a stud partition with extractor hood around a gas cooker so it sits inside. I want to tile inside the alcove but don't know what boarding to put inside. The gas burners are obviously close to the sides. Should I use flameboard or something like aquapanel as it is cement? Any help...

Can I use plastic ducting for gas cooker extraction hood?

The question's in the title I guess. Everywhere I look, I get conflicting information. Some say metal, some plastic. Does anyone know of a rule/ regulation here? Many thanks!

Which material do I fit a canopy hood cooker extractor into?

Hi- fitting a canopy type cooker hood extractor fan (into a 'chimney breast' stud construction above range-type gas cooker). Just wondering- should the cut out plate into which the extractor fits be plywood (external?). If so, how is it finished? Should it be emulsioned? Or should I be using...

Is Aerogel/ Spacetherm the only way to go?

Any ideas on how to fix plasterboard to Kingspan and then to the wall- or Kingspan to wall then plasterboard to that? Can I fit Kingspan directly to wall with no gap? Thanks!

Is Aerogel/ Spacetherm the only way to go?

Hi ajrobb- not really sure what you think you've, "not read carefully before opening your keyboard". Your help's been most useful!

Is Aerogel/ Spacetherm the only way to go?

Sorry to push my luck with another question after everyone's really useful help, but can I fix K17 directly to a cavity wall, or must I have battens/ dabs? (Very space tight). And as K17 is 25mm Kingspan (£17 or so) behind 12.5 plasterboard (£7 or so), could I fix these together to get K17 at...

Is Aerogel/ Spacetherm the only way to go?

Hi- going a bit mad here! I need to get the 0.35W/m2K minimum for wall insulation. Just got a Spacetherm-PP quote of about £650 with delivery for 10m2! Does anyone have any cheaper ideas? I've tried the free u-value calculators, but none seems to have all the materials I need so I can't find...

Wiring diagram to light half or all of room?

Yes- that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Thanks for this. As it looks quite tricky, and I need to get low voltage downlights anyway (I'm getting latest LED so they're not as dim as a glow-worm), I guess whether there's 10 downlights on or 20 won't make a huge difference to the electricity bill...

Wiring diagram to light half or all of room?

Hi- I'd like to have two switches so I can light the entry half of a long room with the first switch, or the whole room with the second one as I enter. Is there a standard layout for this with minimum wiring? Thanks.

Any regs. on height of external louvre vent from cooker hood

Hi- just checking if I can place the external vent from a cooker hood low down on an external wall (just 'cos there's a boiler in the way inside). Wouldn't want someone to get a faceful of burnt chillies, but the alternative is a tortuous route....... Any regs. surrounding this? Can't find any.

Is this double glazing quote reasonable?

Mmmmm- keep getting new quotes as you say. Sounds like you've developed a dodgy salesman sensor! Yes- until you feel right about the transaction, well worth continuing with quotes-. I'd also keep notes, as the windows I was shown (often small samples they brought) seemed to vary wildly in...

Can I panel a fire door?

Hi- can I get a bog-standard plain 30min fire door and put vertical pine butted and beaded pine boarding strips on it so it looks like a cottage door (about £160 bought as a firedoor everywhere I've looked)? If so, would pinning into door ruin fire protection? Just wondering as finances low...

Is this double glazing quote reasonable?

Hi- As an indication of value/ price, we had Anglian replace all our windows in 2002- 14 windows, leaded lights, white coated aluminium outside, hardwood frames. Cost then was £17,000- over £1000 each. some very big windows, some small. Two bay windows. Think price is quite regional, but we're...
