    Central heating noises

Hi, Have a gravity central heating system - Potterton Netaheat (~17 years old) in the kitcken with in/out pipes coming from airing cupboard on first floor (inverted loop?). The following noises happen and I would like to know whether I need to be concerned or it is fairly standard stuff -...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

Apologies for not posting back with results sooner but my bathroom renovation project has been taking a bit longer than I expected.. Just as you are doing Russ I left the adhesive to dry for a week and then grouted. I let this dry for about 5 days although I had to apply a touch up...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Well i did ask him to confirm the outside twice more after he first said it. Don't forget this is a plastic pushfit so no compression nut. Also the thread doesn't make it all the way to the flange, the final 2-3mm is just solid plastic. I put one on the front and back so I cannot...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

I feel I ought to bring this sorry saga to a happy ending and try and get my first two page post into a third page.. Spoke to polyplumb technical help and he said the washer goes on the outside of the tank, but he would always fit it with another rubber washer on the inside. Strangely though...

    Cold water storage tank

I read somewhere else someone saying they used a metal rule to snag those teeth .. ps Solved my polyplumb tank connectors - technical help chap said the rubber washer goes on the outside but as a matter of course he puts another one on the inside as well.

    Cold water storage tank

Woops! I meant millimetres. When I filled my tank up last night those nice hand tighten pushfit tank connectors leaked. Grrrrr.

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Great. Anything else I can use? A plumber, perhaps.

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Yes, made sure all the loose bits were cleared away. I actually have two of them exactly the same and they both leaked when the water level got about half way up the tank. Will the sealant be ok constantly submerged. Does it dissolve or degrade over time?

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

So, I went to do up the compression joint and realised you need a special tool to hold the back of the connector in the tank - D'oh! So, I just bought some polyplumb hand tighten connectors and guess what - they leaked. Have applied loads of sealant and will await the result tomorrow...

Service valves - what is the point?

No, I did not. But, as I say the existing hot feed is 22mm supplying a 1/2" basin and 3/4" bath tap. The existing cold feed to basin (and bath) is 15mm mains which completely overpowers the hot. I wanted to make sure the basin has completely balanced supplies meaning 22mm feeds and...

Service valves - what is the point?

Apologies, thought that was aaccepted abbreviation for the cold water cistern in the loft.

Service valves - what is the point?

ps I realise I need one for the dedicated CWC feed as there's no way of draining away the water.

Service valves - what is the point?

Ok, excuse my ignorance and bear with me.. I have a low pressure system and am about to re-plumb my bathroom (which contains no service valves) and have learnt that pipe bore is everything to make sure there's a decent amount of water coming through. There is currently a 22mm feed for hot...

    Gunk (glue?) on tile face

A stupid question I'm sure, but I have past form on stupidity.. There is what looks like a spaghetti mess of glue on the face of ceramic tiles - I guess to stop them cracking against each other in the box. What's the best and easiest way to get it all off without damaging the tile?

Help - Tile adhesive not set

I guess also it's a slow accumulation of water. I noticed a post where a chap was saying four years after a tiler had fitted tiles, they were all dropping off revealing a mouldy old wall.

Help - Tile adhesive not set

Grout + liquid epoxy sealer seems like a good diy compromise. So when water vapour gets through the grout it will be absorbed by the wall? If I had tanked the wall, the water vapour would not soak into the wall. After the shower, it would then pass back through the grout and evaporate? Is...

    Cold water storage tank

I have just replaced a cold water cistern. I got a 25 gallon polytank which is 27x27x20. It came with bylaw kit, all connectors and insulation. Drilling the holes needs particular sized holesaws (22"/29") of which the most economical ones I found were in a cheap plumbers holesaw kit...
