    Towel Rad Energy Consumption

I have an oil powered AGA that is always on (except during a heatwave). It's used for cooking but also heats the hot water and a towel radiator in the bathroom. I'm doing up the bathroom and so I was thinking of removing the towel rad. The room already has another normal radiator powered from...

    Many Draincocks

OK Thanks, that makes a bit more sense then. Each downstairs rad is fed from pipes dropping down the wall from above so I guess that's why they put a drain on each. Yes the pipework is horrible. No care was taken so shape the copper pipes nicely and it's a complete jumble of copper and plastic.

    Many Draincocks

Every radiator in the house has a draincock on it (except the one in the porch - where it would have actually been useful!). As well as being ugly can I just confirm that this is pointless? They are used to drain down the system right? So no point having one on each rad? Where the pipes are...

50 years for the Brexit Dividend

He said "the overwhelming opportunity for brexit is over the next fifty years". I don't like the guy and I'm a remainer but it's qetting a bit tiresome now with the volume of fake quotes from people who listened to the interview and apparently only heard the words "50 years". In particular, he...

    17 shed sockets

There's 25m of conduit all very neatly routed through 3 'rooms'. The quality of the wiring and termination looks professional to me. They did a ring for the double sockets and a radial for the lights and one for the single sockets. There is evidence of alteration with the supply though so it...

    17 shed sockets

Sorry I meant to say I don't need them all. I do need a couple. Yeah I think I'll do that for now. I didn't notice that. Although, that little unit is downstream of the main consumer unit - which does have an RCD. Does that make it OK? It's the one labelled 'Power Workshop'.

    17 shed sockets

I have 17 shed sockets that I don't really need. The wiring inside looks sound but the metal sockets are quite rusty. Screwfix sell metal sockets without the backbox so that would come to £60 to replace them all. Should I stop being tight and just do that? Or maybe just replace a few sockets...

    Hillary's Blinds

You could handle the complaint via Resolver https://www.resolver.co.uk/ that way it's all tracked and done via email. Looking at the workflow for Hilarys, I'd say there's been a lot of complaints already. In particular you can select Price > Sales Rep Misled or Price > Rogue Trader.

    Outside Light tripping MCB

Sorry, had to wait for it to get dark. Yes it's definitely the PIR on the security light that is tripping the MCB. So with that light switched off, no tripping.

    Outside Light tripping MCB

Turned that switch back on and it hasn't tripped straight away. Probably the bad weather was triggering the PIR and causing the trip. I'll leave it off for now and experiment again when its dark and/or raining.

    Outside Light tripping MCB

Think I've found it. The outside cable was a red herring. I thought all the light switches in the room were off but one of them is backwards and was in fact on the whole time. I've turned this one off and all the other lights on and it hasn't tripped now for 4 hours. It's an LED security light...

    Outside Light tripping MCB

The MCB that trips is connected to the lights in one upstairs room. No sockets or other lights are affected. It is possible it's connected to sockets I haven't found yet, but it's really unlikely someone tapped into this radial in the loft in order to feed the garden when there are so many other...

    Outside Light tripping MCB

The cable can't have been drilled into, it's not buried in mortar. It goes upwards, into the wooden eaves then into the loft. It's loose and can be pulled back and forth a bit. It could be damaged in the loft of course, or loose in the junction box. The MCB would not reset during the rain...
