Oak Engineered Floor - Decision Time.

I use V4 products regularly. They are good to work with and look great when finished. Bear in mind that if you go for a rustic grade you will get filled knots. I believe that the 14/15mm ranges have a 3mm wear layer and the 21mm has a 6mm. They are all tongue and groove products (not click...

Can someone advise what make of laminate flooring this is ??

I can't help from the code number. Can you measure the length, width and thickness in mm as close to exactly as possible. Do the boards have bevelled edges, if so, on the length only or length and ends? You may have better luck tracking it down from the dimensions.

Is it normal to ask for a 50% deposit before starting work..

I agree completely. I normally ask for 50% deposit as I have to pay for the materials and don't expect to fully finance customers purchases - I'm not an unlicenced loan company.

Trade waste site in north hants / surrey

Used a mobile collection company that normally only cover A3 corridor. A friend in Byflett uses him and gave me his number. Had to drive to byfleet (friends shop) to meet him but he took all my rubbish for £60 inc vat. It would have cost me at least the min charge at slyfield (£48 + vat). Its a...

Trade waste site in north hants / surrey

Thanks Jono. Unfortunately I've got a shared drive and can't get a skip up it without blocking neighbours access. Its a shame they don't let trade use the weighbridge side of the farnborough dump - would be alot closer than driving to guildford. I'll look into prices for collection companys next.

Can anyone tell me of another site that accepts trade waste in north hants (basingstoke, hartney wintney or farnborough areas) or the camberley / yateley areas. It must be a site that accepts general trade waste (i normally go over a weighbridge and pay on the way out once the weight is...

    Ridge appeared in Amtico floor...

Flex 700 is made by F Ball and is a flexible smoothing compound that can be used over ply as well as steel. Its great stuff and moves with the floor without cracking. I use it over ply if I'm installing a design floor. Failsafe product.

Problem with my engineered wood floor.

Filled knots are common in engineered floors - the more rustic the grade the larger and more of them you get. They shouldn't be coming out though. Get a rep from the shop to see the affected areas.

    oak sloid floor lifting

You need to check the moisture content of the floor and the humidity level of the area. Wood will only expand if the moisture level increases. Its normal this time of the year when central heating goes on for humidity levels to drop and the wood to shrink. Have you had any work done in the...

Flooring Experts - Quick Step or Balterio?

Quickstep can be clicked in or tapped together (lengths and short headers). Balterio you have to click the headers then tilt the row up to slide the length into place. The Balterio you have to shave the click section off the groove and glue the last row in if its going under a door frame...

Carpet stretching and kicker ... and fitting question

Theres a tool that some fitters use called a "deadman". Its used in conjunction with a power stretcher. It's made by screwing 3 pieces of 18mm ply together (2' x 1') then fixing rows of gripper to the bottom of it. You then get your helper to stand on it whilst the tail block of the power...

    Moisture Content vs Wood Floor

Do you mean that the existing sub-floor is wood? If so what is it - chipboard, ply, floorboards? If its chipboard then as it is it won't hold a nail securely if secret nailing a solid floor to it but you can fit ply first then secret nail to this. Where does the moisture problem come from? If...

    Importing flooring

I get emails from companies offering me flooring from china (typical - we are looking for a Uk importer blah blah). They always remind me of the scam email normally sent from the African continent - we work for a major oil company and have excess funds which we need to get out of the country -...

    New laminate exxxxxxxxpanded

Do you get any moisture build up on the windows when they are closed? Get yourself a hygrometer to check the humidity level. Did you acclimatize the laminate before installing it? Laminate does expand, has yours expanded both ends and closed the gap equally?
