Replacing Paving with Turf/Lawn - Ground Prep

Oh I realise that, it's just if I were to fertilise at all I'd spend the money on pre turf stuff to give the soil immediate and direct nourishment for the turf roots. Depending on when it gets laid this might be more important, particularly if towards end of season and the soil is a bit poor. It...

    Block paving in driveway question

Does it fall towards that wall? If so is it just sand washing off the surface to the bottom of the wall?

Replacing Paving with Turf/Lawn - Ground Prep

Regarding fertiliser, a pre turf fertiliser is a good bet and will promote rapid root growth. I used B&Q's own brand, Verve, and I'm sure it helped. The new lawn is very green and is growing quickly with roots of 1 inch in a week.

    Block paving in driveway question

Sounds like it's spreading as it's not bound in on that side you mentioned, thus opening up the joints ever so slightly and allowing sand to be pumped up to the surface. If this is the case it's only going to get worse. Is there any way you can remove a few blocks in an untrafficked corner...

Replacing Paving with Turf/Lawn - Ground Prep

It depends how much you want to spend, and conversely how much donkey work you're willing to do, and what quality of finish you want. I've just done our garden on our first home and while it takes time and it's bloody hard work it is rewarding. This involved something similar to you, removing a...

    Replacing slabs with Turf

Unless you crush the rubble up you're going to get settlement over time. Your thin layer of soil will percolate into the rubble and the lawn will be ruined. When I say crush I mean tiny bits, which you won't do without mechanical help = cost. You don't have to use topsoil, you can buy...

    Zanussi tumble dryer tripping RCD

This is what I've done, and it seems to have been successful! Fingers crossed it lasts. Many thanks for your input folks.

    Zanussi tumble dryer tripping RCD

True. It's not easy to clean out without taking the whole thing to bits sadly. Maybe I'll give that a go tomorrow.

    Zanussi tumble dryer tripping RCD

Thanks John. It was moved shortly before this problem showed. I think water might have moved inside and caused the fault. If we dry it out (hairdryer?) for a while is it likely to work again or will it most likely have fried something?

    Zanussi tumble dryer tripping RCD

Hello all, We have a Zanussi condensing tumble dryer which has started tripping the RCD on the fuse board. Not the MCB for the utility room plugs. It trips when the dial is turned from the stop position but before the start button is pressed, which I thought was strange. It's not the...

Can I assume that you're putting 100mm of gravel down, if you were hoping to fill a 300mm hole and compact to 200? If so I'd say that was too much. Use a membrane to stop mixing of layers, use cellular paving filled with pea shingle at 40mm depth. I think cellular paving is laid on a thin bed...

    Ordering hardcore

300 won't compact to 200, no. You'd buy hardcore by weight and not by calculated volume. If your measurements are accurate, 11tonnes will do you. Presumably it's a driveway that you can tip directly onto, which is easier, but you shouldn't really try and compact more than 100mm at a time so...

    Ordering hardcore

For 200mm final compacted depth you will need approx. 11tonnes of type 1 MOT (crushed limestone). Out of interest what is the reason for going so deep?

    Pointing Indian Sandstone

Ultrascape flowpoint grout. Applied as a slurry, flows into every crevice and goes off in 30mins. You can't use too much water. Brush off final excess and it leaves no residue on the stone. It's over £20 a bag but it's easy and fast and it works. EH Smith stock it.

Joining straight wall to angled wall

Cheers Stuart, I had thought of that, and it might be a good idea.

Joining straight wall to angled wall

I wouldn't say looks are unimportant, but I don't know any other way to do it. I don't want a brick border to the patio, the wall has to go underneath, so therefore it must have a fall, otherwise I'd need a long, thick wedge of mortar between paving and wall, which would look awful. If I just...

Joining straight wall to angled wall

I suppose I do, it's just the slope is tiny, matching the fall of the paving at 60:1. So over the required length it'll be a difference of about 30mm. The wall is to take up the level for a patio which is 3-4 courses higher than the lawn will be. Paving will be sitting on top of the wall, so...

Joining straight wall to angled wall

Sorry I should have made it clear that both walls will be new. Is there a technique for interlocking the bricks to allow for the fall along one of the arms of this L shaped wall only?

Joining straight wall to angled wall

Hello all, How do I go about joining two dwarf brick walls at a 90degree corner where one is level and the other is on a 1in60 fall? Thank you!

    Shower upgrade, MCB rating?

It is a Mira shower, yes. An Azora. I've seen the option of upping it to a 50A discussed elsewhere, so that might be the way to go.
