cold water 28mm gate valve stuck open

Hi, We bought a house recently and I've just found that the cold water 28mm gate valve is stuck open. It is as far as I can see the only way of cutting off the cold water supply from the tank situated in the loft. I suspect it hadn't been open for approximately 10 years. Any...

will this light fitting be enough for our bathroom?

Hi, We moved into a house we bought and in our bathroom the light fitting is a 4 X GU10 ceiling bar which gives off way too much light IMHO. I've never seen anything like it in a bathroom. I am considering replacing it with something like this: which requires 1 x G9 Max 25w. My...

help with repair to ceiling leak stain

hi, We just bought a house that had these two stains on the kitchen ceiling: After a bit of investigation, I concluded that one stain was from worn sealant around the en-suite shower (sealant replaced) and the other from a leaky joint in the airing cupboard (olive replaced, leak...

Boiler "wails" with CH on, however no noise with D

Thanks! Both pumps (CH and DHW) are actually set to 3. I'll get some descaler as recommended then, right? How do I add this to the system? If I pour into the F&E tank, will it get to the boiler or just sit in the tank for ages? Do I need to drain the system?

how to hang light to a loop-in ceiling rose

Riveralt, thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about replacing the pendants with recessed spotlights, just a one-for-one swap of a pendant for something like this bar of four spotlights below (or maybe just 2 GU10's instead of 4). Is there a way of replacing pendants with...

Boiler "wails" with CH on, however no noise with D

Hi, We moved into a house with a Minimiser SE boiler, open-vented, feed-and-expansion tank in the loft, boiler in the kitchen and water tank/pumps in an airing cupboard. I get woken up by a wailing sound coming from the boiler. I don't think it's the fan. Interestingly, we only get this sound...

how to hang light to a loop-in ceiling rose

Hi, We've just bought a house were the lighting circuit appears to be a loop-in system, i.e. the ceiling roses also act a junction boxes. The previous owners left pendant lights hanging (no shades). On the ground floor I'd like to replace these with circular and linear groups of GU10 220V...

    Installing 2nd bathroom fan

Hi, Not strictly electrics but here goes... Just bought a house and the family bathroom has a fan (not timed) that spurs off the light, ducts into the loft and out through a hole in the gable end. Next door, the ensuite bathroom has no ventilation and gets very humid as we use it most...

Thank you! Out of interest, what words did you google? I'm usually fairly competent with this sort of thing but for some reason could only find entire fan assemblies.
