External lighting cable query and general query.

Well my kitchen used to be wired up very strange - one side which included the wsahing machine was wired via this socket from the breakfast room (which was on one circuit loop) and another side took power from the rear reception room (which is on its standard downstairs plug sockets circuit...

External lighting cable query and general query.

Ok, now I've rexamined the circuit I've got a few more questions. I have a socket in my breakfast room. It is not in a circuit at all and just connects to the fuse board direct with through a single cable. Can I spur a RCD off this as it is in a much more sensible location for a switch and...

External lighting cable query and general query.

Hi and thanks for the replies. In terms of the wire, i think hi-tuf was the stuff the electrician was talking about as he said it didn't need the armoured stuff, although looking at those prices, the armoured stuff is cheaper! Is...

External lighting cable query and general query.

Hi there, I want to add two security lights round the back of my house. I had an electrician over (used this guy on previous job) but he's not free for a bit and not that willing to come over to do this small job, so thought I may do it myself. I initially went to an electrician because I...

    Newbie laminate question

Quick further question - From what I gather I should treat my hallway and kitchen as seperate rooms. Does this mean that I should effectively cut the laminate off leaving a 20mm gap under the threshold joining strip? Cheers

    Difficulty changing taps

I really wanted to avoid cutting pipes and remaking them as its really confined area and I don't have the confidence to do that!

Thanks for that, think I'm still a bit confused. Choice seems like it may be lengthways is going to look nicer but widthways is easier.

    Newbie laminate question

Got a few questions and only seen conflicting answers to so thought I'd ask you folks here. I've got B&Q click and lock stuff laminate and I'm going to lay the stuff in my hallway leading directing on to my breakfast room. All other areas (including stairs) are going to be carpeted. I'm...

    Thin Radiator required

Do you know how I can buy the brackets seperately to the radiator itself? Cheers

    Thin Radiator required

Ok, thanks for the reply and that does seem like a good suggestion! Have you had any experience of doing this before, my only concern is that the connectors will be right up against the wall or in the wall - but worse comes to worse can chip away at the wall to make space for them. As far...

    Thin Radiator required

Hi all, I've fitted my new kitchen and I need a slimmer radiator than what was in place before to not constrict the drawers. Does anyone know of a make of radiator <70mm, preferably <65mm to give some clearance (distances must be front of rad to wall) which comes in c. 500mmx700mm and...

    Difficulty changing taps

Tony, Cheers. I hadn't tried the extendable one and now I'm not sure I'll bother. I'll try the double basin wrench and see if that yields any results. The picture I displayed below was around £5 and 11", they also had one that was £22 and larger/more sturdy.

    Difficulty changing taps

That's a good idea with locking two together. This is the other wrench I saw which I am thinking about

    Difficulty changing taps

I'm trying to change some taps to a bath in my current property but having severe difficulty. Whoever installed it (not me!!!) put it right up against the wall on the taps side and its a real pain to losen the hot tap pipe connector nut (can do the cold tap pipe nut) which is beyond the cold...

    CH/HW problem.....

My parents have a v similar issue and I was going to post a new thread, but thought I'd jump on this one (not too sure what this forum etiquette prefers). My parents have a Ravenheat boiler - listed as Primary Type A 'L51' and they have a hot water tank/storage system not combi. The root...

Which part to I need to fit new kitchen taps

Hi all Quick query (I hope here). I currently have quite old taps which are attached in the more conventional way of a supply pipe with nut which screws onto the thread of the tap - believe they are 20mm. I've got a new mixer tap which has two flexible pipes and end in a 20mm nut. I...
