Does EPDM have to be glued down?

Hi, my neighbour has two smallish flat roofs on her front and back dormers that are covered with felt, and she says it's twenty years old and is afraid that it needs replacing. I am thinking of stripping the felt off and putting EPDM on - does this have to be glued down or can it just be laid on...

    Leaking Stopcock tap

I'd like to say a big THANKS to you all, I fixed it in five minutes yesterday - didn't need to turn off the water mains stopcock, I undid the gland nut, twisted 10 inches of PTFE into a string and wound it round the spindle clockwise, pushed it in with a flat headed screwdriver, did up the gland...

    Leaking Stopcock tap

Thanks very much for your reply! I will give that a go! Sounds really simple and I've redone all the pipework in the kitchen anyway, so I should be able to cope with more PTFE tape, wonderful stuff.

    Leaking Stopcock tap

Hi, I have a very slow leak coming from the shaft of the tap on my stopcock (1 below), where the shaft enters the body of the stopcock - see photo below. This only happens when the tap is open, when it's closed, the leak stops. Can I (after turning off the mains water at the stopcock outside...

Repairing a Drayton 3 Port valve

Hi, I had a problem with my Drayton 3 Port valve not working - it turned out that the two plastic tags which hold the springs in place had snapped off. I thought I would upload some photos of how I fixed this without having to buy a new valve, just using two bolts. (To remove the valve from...

Extractor fan backdraft shutters fouling on flexible ducting

Here are some photos of the two parts I bought - the 100mm by 300mm pipe, and the 100mm pipe connector. Hopefully this will help other people who had the same problem I did.

Extractor fan backdraft shutters fouling on flexible ducting

Thank you both for your replies, that's exactly what I did! I bought sone 100mm i.d. plastic pipe (Toolstation item '100 Round Pipe 100mm x 350mm') (i.d. means "inside diameter", I hadn't realised this when looking up extractor fans) and cut it so that it was about two inches longer than the fan...

Extractor fan backdraft shutters fouling on flexible ducting

Hi, I have had an extractor fan installed in the ceiling of my bathroom, with flexible insulated ducting going out through the soffit outside the bathroom. I thought I could feel a draft coming down from the fan when it was running, and then eventually realised that the backdraft shutters aren't...
