    Which oven

Hi guys, Having an extension at the moment and the electrician needs to know what ovens and hobs we are going for so he can do the first fix. Obviously we haven't quite got round to picking the ovens and hob but was wondering if someone could explain the difference with all of the ratings...

    What type of shower

Thanks. I'll speak to my neighbours and find out. Houses were built in the 60's. Unfortunately I don't have any details other than it runs from the curb under to the back of the house. I'm not an expert but I assume it must be the main supply as the cold tap in our make shift kitchen is next...

    What type of shower

I assume that is expensive? Are main water pumps any good?

    What type of shower

Hi, I don't know the mains pressure but the flow rate is 6 litres per min. This was calculated using the cold tap located directly by the incoming mains water.

    What type of shower

Hi guys, Having an extension and an extra shower will be added. We currently have an old potterton 24 eco combi boiler with a mains flow rate of 6 litres per minute which is quite low. We already have an electric shower so assumed the new one should be that. Could someone guide as to the...

    Breather Membrane

The plan is to insulate the studs with celotex, add then I think 12.5mm of insulated plasterboard with the foil in for the vcl. The builders are then going above for the first floor which is all timber. Good point about where it goes from the cavity. The single skin hasn't got any weep vents...

    Breather Membrane

Thanks John. It seems there are some that use them and some that don't. In my case building control require it and as far as I can gather it stops water or vapour getting through the single brick skin and into the timber frame. Also let's vapour out of the timber frame into the cavity if some...

    Breather Membrane

Hi, Just a quickie. If you are studding out a single skin garage and you have block, breather membrane, studs from out to in. Which way should the printed side of the breather membrane be? I would think facing outward to stop any water that gets through the block from penetrating the timber...

    Waste Drainage

This is the layout. The floor is concrete as its from the original garage, I think we are going to use the existing SVP for the new bathroom upstairs.

    Waste Drainage

Thanks for your help. Building regs allow you to remove the gully and connect a stack to it? Also going to need a saniflow for the downstairs loo. The run is about 5 or 6m to the existing soil pipe and even more to get to the hidden drain outside. Number 1's only sign going up in that room :)

    Waste Drainage

Hi guys, If ok can i pick your brains again please. Work has started and not really a good first day. We are trying to locate the manhole in the garden which will be hooked into the waste drainage of the extension. It turns out every house in our row of 6 but 1 has built over theirs. Mine is...

    Fire protection

All sorted I hope. Building control are happy with Tiles Battens Membrane Fire resistant board OSB 150 studs with 100mm insulation 25mm insulation backed plasterboard taped at joints The builder and architect are happy with this. I did ask BC about not having OSB and just using the fire board...

    Fire protection

Thanks. Going to chase up the architect today. Having read a few bits over the weekend and taking on board the comments here what would be wrong with this. 12.5mm plasterboard (foiled backed and taped to provide VCL) 150 x 47 studs with 150mm rockwool insulation between studs fire resistant...

    Fire protection

No probs. What provides the fire resistance on the inside? Or does one board like 6mm supalux provide enough. Just reread Woody's post and yes plasterboard from the inside

Have read enviroboards are a cheaper alternative. No idea how true that is though.
