    Making large shelves secure

Hi all Am building floor-to-ceiling (2.5m-high) shelves for books, across a 3.6m wall (potential designs attached). The shelves will be made from 18mm MDF box unit carcasses, stacked up. To make it secure I'm planning to affix multiple battens to the (very solid brick) wall behind, and then...

How do I remove massively tough coving...?

Genuine thanks; the video is really interesting. We've still got some of the running cornice in another room, so it's nice to know it's history/method if we decide to keep it. Ceiling will be plasterboard, new coving and a big celling rose. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves across one wall.

How do I remove massively tough coving...?

Thanks, but that method ain't cutting it unfortunately!

How do I remove massively tough coving...?

Not sure. It's not anything like the plaster coving I've removed in the past; it's much much tougher. Basically like concrete and with no 'gap' behind the coving itself (i.e. it's like one solid piece of concrete completely adhered against the wall and ceiling). I've bolstered some off (see...

How do I remove massively tough coving...?

Hi all I'm removing the old coving (pictured), and replacing with a more pleasing design. Initially, I thought the coving was plaster, but now I'm not so sure. I'm assuming the best way to remove it is just drilling / hammering / crowbar-ing it off the wall? I'm aware the ceiling has cracks...

    MDF mirrored doors

That's a great point that I hadn't considered, and is obviously the way to go, however... A 12mm back door panel, and 6mm shaker side panels, would leave an impossible 2mm for the beading, if we have to use a 4mm mirror I'll have to reconsider sizing!

    MDF mirrored doors

Hi all Having received some exorbitant quotes for panelled MDF doors from a few manufactures, I've decided to partially-build my own (for a walk-in-wardrobe). I'm planning to buy some of the attached shaker-style doors (simply to save time), then add some beading onto the internal edges of...

Does 36 or 40mm edging tape exist?

Ignore question - I've found some online. ☮️

Does 36 or 40mm edging tape exist?

I've built a bunch of wardrobes from 18mm MDF box carcasses, placed side-by-side. I didn't bother to add edging tape during its construction, so I'm currently left with raw (& primed) edges. I'd prefer the two adjacent 18mm edges to be covered by one strip of 36mm (or trimmed 40mm) edging tape...

Thanks so much, I'll get on this tomorrow. Had no idea it would be this complex!

Dangerous handrail due to poor plaster/wall; any suggestions!?

Using the (very good) fixings that came with the rail, I think something like that, yes

Dangerous handrail due to poor plaster/wall; any suggestions!?

I'll try a pipe cleaner to see how far it is to reach decent stone. Cheers

Dangerous handrail due to poor plaster/wall; any suggestions!?

Hi all I'm adding two handrails to aid an elderly chap up and down the stairs. The internal walls that I'm drilling into for the plugs are crumbling, and are too shallow to allow the plugs a solid/snug fit (see pictures). The handles are wobbly and far from safe. I don't think it would take...

One (full) rad not getting hot

Hiya. One of the Mother-in-Law's upstairs rad's isn't getting hot; have bled it. I therefore assume system is either unbalanced or not enough pressure. Can't find the valve to introduce more water/pressure into the system. Can anyone spot it here please!? Cheers
