    How to paint blown bricks.

Hi, I have an internal wall that seems to have been damp at some point in the past and is currently a mix of flaky paint, blown crumbly bricks and soft lime mortar. The wall was once hidden by an under stairs cupboard. I want to tidy the wall up and was thinking of painting it with masonry...

What to do with Damp Internal Wall

Hi. Well i cover a portion of the wall with cling film, and over the course of a couple of days no condensation was seen on the film. So perhaps it is not currently damp. Presumably it will be ok to plaster!

What to do with Damp Internal Wall

Hi John, thanks for the reply. In response... The floor in that area of the hall seems to be a concrete floor. The concrete gives a high damp meter reading. But that could just be the material. There are no pipes in that area that I am aware of. The radiators are on a different wall, also the...

What to do with Damp Internal Wall

Hello, I am after some pointers about what to do with a seemingly damp wall. The core of my house is a cottage dating from the 1850s and the walls are brick built walls that seem to have a slate DPC. Most of these old cottage walls are now interior walls, as previous owners of the house had...

    Boiler Gas Pressure Question

All, Many thanks for the comments. I won't worry quite so much then. The Engineer seemed concerned that if I had any future issues with the boiler and went back to Worcester that they would tell me to jog-on because the pressure differential was outside the specifications in their installation...

    Boiler Gas Pressure Question

Hi All, I would appreciate your thoughts, comments and advice on the below situation. I moved into a new house a year ago. The house has a few gas appliances: A Worcester Greenstar Conventional 40CDI boiler that supplies 11 to 15 radiators, and hot water. Although hot water is to a cylinder...

    DVR Fault Advice

Thanks for the prompt... yes all the channels are enabled. As four of the channels worked and four did not, I was assuming it was a hardware issue. But your post above prompted me to reboot the system (for some reason this had not occurred to me before to do so). Having re-booted the system all...

    DVR Fault Advice

Hello, Back in August I purchased a HIkvision 8 Channel Turbo HD 3.0 DVR (DS-7208HUHI-F1/N) from CCTV Direct Online. I have the DVR installed with eight cameras, each camera has its own power supply. Today channels 5, 6, 7 & 8 of the DVR do not seem to be functional. Channels 5, 6 & 7 show no...

    Water Softener Woes

Also need to factor the installation costs. Whilst i may be able to replace like for like, installing a completely new system may be beyond my skills. I also needed the cheapest option in the short term as i need to save the pennies to get some damp issues resolve!

    Water Softener Woes

Just to close this thread. I final upgraded the heard unit to an Autotrol 740. I did not replace the resin as visually it looked ok. The unti is now installed and seems to be working. All in all, not as hard as it seemed at first glance. Thanks again for all of the advice.

    Water Softener Woes

I did think about that, but a few websites I looked at suggest that the part in question has not been manufactured since late 2011. So I decided it would just be easier to upgrade to a digital system, and £280 delivered for a new control unit did not seem that bad. I just need to work out if a...

    Water Softener Woes

Hi again, I finally got around to doing some further testing on my softener, I am now convinced that the control unit is totally screwed. So I will replace it, with a more user friendly unit. I will go for one of these, which seems to be a direct replacement...

    Water Softener Woes

Hi again. Thinking that the control unit is pretty much screwed I was considering replacing it with and new digital one. Such as this http://www.wrekinwatersofteners.co.uk/wrekinwatersofteners/final.asp?id=473 Just to check my thinking, replacing the unit would simply be a matter of unscrewing...

Tool question – Cutting paving slabs in situ

Just to close this thread down.. i finally lifted a slab to see what was underneath. The slabs seem to be sat on a bed of soil and mixed hardcore. So i decided to give cutting then in situ a go with the nine inch grinder and a cutting blade. I must say it was a slightly scary task, but i...

Thanks for the info guys. I did find an YouTube video that shows how to strip the machine down. So next weekend i will strip it down and look for any obvious issues.
