Chosen electrician, I'm a bit concerned....

Ground floor extension, bathroom, utility, diner & living room. Had three quotes & the one that seemed interested got the job. Shower, fans x 2, sockets x 7, lights x 4. We ran briefly through what was required, new CU with RCD protection, bonding etc, etc. As I am technical manager for a...

    New Installation Q pt3 (Shower)

I will do. I can't see the point in fitting 6mm just save a few pounds & make it easier to route. Thanks

    New Installation Q pt3 (Shower)

Last question, honest. Side storey single extension incorporating a bathroom that is to be fitted with an 8.5Kw Triton shower. To save ripping up the flooring and trying to run 10mm T+E round all of the other services under there, we suggested that it be run OUTSIDE the house. Nowhere...

New installation Q, pt2 (Smoke alarms)

Thanks for all the replies. I've emailed my BCO to confirm that he's happy with the RF ones, if he is, I'll use those as it makes installation easier.

New installation Q, pt2 (Smoke alarms)

I like the sound of the RF interlinked ones, but considering what Rebuke posted, would both the upstairs & downstairs one have to be powered from the same lighting circuit or could I power the upstairs one from the upstairs lighting & the downstairs one from the downstairs lighting?

New installation Q, pt2 (Smoke alarms)

Thanks folks. Rather than running 3C+E linking the three new alarms, couldn't I just use three "indepenadant" alarms, each taking a feed from the closest lighting circuit? Trying to run 3C+E between them would be a nightmare due to there location, plus the house is still being lived in by...

New installation Q, pt2 (Smoke alarms)

As per my post the other day, single storey side extension, 4 rooms (dining, living, bathroom, utility). BCO has requested that I replace the two battery smoke alarms in the house with two mains units (but none in the extension which surprised me). I have asked the two electricians that...

    New installation query?

Thanks for the fast replies. The garage is seperate to the house but does not feed anything else. The 32A MCB in the house CU feeds a small CU in the garage, the garage sockets being protected by a 16A MCB. The idea of using a 16A socket for the welder is usefull, having RCD on everything...

    New installation query?

Hi. I have now had two quotes for having the wiring done in my new extension. Both electricians contradict each other slightly & I'd like more opinions please! The extesnion is a single storey, two living rooms, bathroom & utility. 7 double sockets, 4 lights, 2 fans & a shower. All pretty...

    Timer replacement (Randall)

Thanks for the info. I take it somewhere like Plumbcentre would stock them?

    Baxi Bermuda inset back boiler

I think you've summed it up. I'll look for a different (recommended) service engineer.

    Baxi Bermuda inset back boiler

I've got a Baxi Inset back boiler, fitted about 5 to 6 years ago. When you initially switch it on, the ignitor clicks around 15 times before the burners ignite. My neighbour had exactly the same model fitted at the same time & his only clicks 3 or 4 times before it ignites. When mine was...

    Timer replacement (Randall)

Can you get a direct replacement for a Randall 102 timer? This is one of the older types & I was wondering if there is a "plug in" type of replacement? Thanks

    CH timer replacement?

My parents elderly CH timer has packed up. Its the older "clockwork" type. You can still switch the heating/water on manually, but the clock has stopped working. Is it straightforward to replace it with a new digital type? There are three cables feeding into the existing timer, I'm guessing...

    Outbuilding

A mate of mine plays drums & bought a shed specifically for it. It is about 12' x 10' and is a decent tongue & groove one. He then completely lined the inside with 4" Celotex then plasterboard as sound proofing. This was put onto a 4" concrtete bas ebut you could always lay some decent slabs...

Thanks for all the advice, I now feel a bit more confident about what to expect to be done to comply.

    Slabs for driveway edgings?

    Thanks!

    Slabs for driveway edgings?

Thanks, but what I meant was slabs laid flat (as opposed to on edge, as per usual edgings). A house round the corner has has this done & it looks quite nice IMO so I was thinking of doing something similar but I didn't want the slabs to crack in time with cars passing over them, hence the query...

    T&G cladding in bathroom?

We have a new bathroom as part of an extension and we were thinking of cladding the bottom half of the walls with T&G, painted satin white (tiling the upper half). The room has a shower so I'm concerned about the T&G moving with the steam that will be generated from the shower. Although the...
