    Air Admittance Valve?

One more question... can the AAV go on the drain side of the toilet or must it be at the top end of the run? Thanks

    Air Admittance Valve?

Hi I am moving a ground floor toilet away from an outside wall by about 3 meters (towards the middle of the house). In other words, extending the soil pipe by about 3 - 3.5 meters. The existing drain is downstream of the stack pipe. Will I need an AAV? If so can it go inside a...

    New stack pipe

Thanks for the advice - very helpful. Before I start, I have a Plan B. This is to branch off the existing stack pipe. It is less than 2 meters from my new toilet but it will mean using 3 elbows between toilet and branch in order to get around the corner. Is this OK?

    New stack pipe

My intention is to leave the existing vented stack in place and extend the underground drain for a meter or two and then add an additional stack for the new toilet. Hope this makes sense.

    Fitting new toilet cistern.

Hi Last weekend I fitted an ideal standard space corner toilet. The cistern came with a pre-fitted bottom entry filling valve (torbeck type?). It came with a small blue plastic spiral inserted in the inlet end of the valve. When I turned the water on (3 bar pump) the water only trickled...

    New stack pipe

Hi I am intending to install a new stack pipe for an additional 1st floor toilet. The new stack will be approx. 1 to 2 meters upstream from the end of the existing system (and around a corner) which is also where the existing stack is. My question is does my additional stack need to be...

    Testing new heating system

Just replaced all of the plumbing and heating in my house except for some existing radiators/pipework. New boiler will be pressurised and I would like to test for leaks before I have the boiler fitted. I have fitted an additional 8 litre expansion vessel in the airing cupboard to assist the...

    moving incoming supply

I think it is from the early 60's which is when the house was converted into flats, it was then converted back to a house in the 80's. The downstairs wiring is up to date with RCB's etc but the upstairs is old (I have a wooden fuse box with ceramic fuses and no earth in the lighting circuit -...

    moving incoming supply

What is VIR? If you mean the two cables coming out of the meter and dissapearing into the pipe in the wall, they feed a seperate consumer unit which supplies the first floor of my house (it used to be 2 flats). I think you are right to be concerned - they have a woven fabric covering. These...

    moving incoming supply

Hi. I would like to have my incoming supply moved from one side of an internal wall to the other side - about 5 inches! This will take it from my kitchen to my utility room. It comes up through the concrete floor which I will be digging up anyway as I need to remove a disused gas pipe. What...

    Upgrading heating system

I did look into heatbanks but decided against because of the install cost and the fairly poor mains water pressure (and the fact that the washing machine is on most of the time when I want a shower!). I will be getting a Corgi installer to fit/commission the boiler but he is old school and...

    Upgrading heating system

Hi I am currently upgrading my heating system and have a couple of questions. My house was turned into two flats in the 60's and back into a house in the 80's. I am now replacing two gas boilers with a new one and joining the two systems together. Also replacing the cold water storage...
