    Fitting new bathroom

Hi, After having some quotes in for refitting a bathroom which were all out of our price range, I am going to price it up using seperate trades people. If I go down this route, in what order shall I get them in? My main concern is the plumber, I would like the toilet etc to sit on the...

    simple draft question

Sorry to bring this up again, but I plan on using insulation board between the joinsts AND put 6mm ply ontop of the floorboards to help even them up, then use thick underlay and carpet. Would this be overkill and cause condensation? If so should i just ply/underlay/carpet on top of the...

    Socket/Switch locations

Hi Adam Yeah i just measured 1200 from floor for the light switch, it does seem low and im only 5'8". The existing switch is 1350 and seems about right for me. I guess i have the luxury of placing it where i like (within reason) as its an old house. Phil

    Socket/Switch locations

securespark, Thanks for the reply, I see that these regulations are not required for a rewire of old house. But i dont mind the extra chasing so i thought i might as well just do it anyway. Regarding the corners i found this thread on the forum...

    Socket/Switch locations

hi, I am currently doing lots of chasing for flush sockets and the wiring, I have read that they should be placed min 450 above floor and max 1200 above floor and 350 from corners. Does this mean centres or edges ie bottom of socket min 450, and does the 350 from corners apply to edges like...

    simple draft question

Hi there, We have recently moved into our new home(building site), before we did we stripped the house down to the bare walls and floorboards. There is around a 3ft gap under the ground floor which is vented from the walls. I understand from other threads on this site that it would be a bad...

    moving old sockets

I had an NICEIC electrician in today who looked at the board and socket for about 2 seconds and told me a rewire was required as he wouldnt want to extend the cables for the new sockets (this was before the floorboards were up and revealed the slack on the cables). is it legal for me to run the...

    moving old sockets

er... the cables were solid core i think, brittle and looked like copper (well in colour at least) . All the main cables are grey with red cables, black cables and i think the green is bare inside the grey cable with green sheathing inside the sockets/switches. Ill be able to get pictures...

hi RF, thanks for the reply, You were right about the wiring, after taking a further look when i was there today (move in couple weeks), i noticed two cables running to the box. I also had a few floor boards up and they are as suspected running underfloor and up behind the skirting baton. I...
