    4mm wired 9.5kw shower - cable hasn't blown

I started a rewire today, ripping out the old wiring etc. Anyway, i noticed what looked like a small cable going to a quite new shower. Upon inspection i found a newish 9.5kw shower run in 4mmt/e. I asked the owner if it had been working etc. and she says its been fine, she had the shower...

Cross Bonding of main bonding gas and water on PIR

Perhaps I should rephrase my question, as it seems like people can be a little picky when certain words are used. When applying main equipotential bonding of extraneous-conductive-parts to the main earthing terminal as per 411.3.1.2, 544.1 etc. can one bonding conductor be used to "bond...

Cross Bonding of main bonding gas and water on PIR

I've done a few PIR's with the following Bonding arrangements (mainly on flats for some reason), just for my clarity what is acceptable and what code would go against it. 1. Water bonded in 6mm to CU continuous cable linked to Gas Pipe - install approx 1985 2. Gas Bonded in 10mm to Earth...

Can a RCD Spur trip from a fault on the circuit.

yeh its in the spec for lifts done in this area, if domestic. Its a plastic back box. I'll be charging, just don't have the time thats all to spend half a day round trip, going to the job. I'll insist the lift engineer goes out first if theres not really any chance its a wiring fault, thats...

Can a RCD Spur trip from a fault on the circuit.

No, the lift guy wired it to the spur. He says it works fine when plugged into ring main - 'but thats coz there aint no rcd on that' i said but they are adimant i go and check it. If there was some kind of fault on the supply side would this trip the RCD? Also if this was the case...

Can a RCD Spur trip from a fault on the circuit.

No, I just installed the power supply - just to the rcd spur. The lift engineers installed the lift. But they've requested i go back to sort 'my fault' out. with regards to how i tested it - insulation, loop (ze and zs) etc. and rcd tested the load side of the spur

Can a RCD Spur trip from a fault on the circuit.

Hi, I've installed an RCD spur into a house for some kind of lift. The circuit is a stand alone circuit just for the lift and is not rcd protected at the CU (neither is any circuit in the house). However the lift has been installed and keeps tripping the RCD spur. When i installed it i...

Earth Fault / Voltage on Earth?

Hi, I've been called to a job today where the customer had recieved a bad shock touching some metalwork. I've been and checked it out and found a couple of faults, but am stumped on one. I found the live had shorted to the backbox, and blown up the socket. They had got another "electrician"...

optima xm to veritas 8 - won't set

there pir's and one door magnet. I'll check the fuses, hopefully that will solve it, but if the fuse is blown and blows again, i presume there is either a faulty sensor or something is shorting out ?

optima xm to veritas 8 - won't set

Well all four zone lights are lit when I do that. Does that mean there is a fault on all four zones. Nothing has been changed in the installation, just the board and this fault was there before. Could a fault on the old board produce a fault/damage the sensors?

optima xm to veritas 8 - won't set

the zones only light when i set the system. Also, this may be a dumb question (as i write this i know it is) should the PIR's be lit when not set etc. as there is no red light.

optima xm to veritas 8 - won't set

Hi, I had an old optima xm alarm which started playing up, would go off intermitantly either without any prompting or if the heating came on. I managed to reset the board but found it would not set the alarm, you put in your code and the exit tone would start but would never stop. I...

When should an RCD be fitted or not?

I often get queried on whether a RCD is required or not, However depending which electrician you speak to you get different opinions: Here are some of the sinerios i've been faced with/asked about (when theres no RCD for the circuit): After a PIR on an old board with no RCD protection - (...

    Door Entry Problem

Hello there, I recently installed a door entry system in a store in a shopping center. Easy job, mag lock, key pad etc. However, the door needs to release when the fire alarm goes off. Normally I'd just wire into the NC/C relay on the fire panel then to mag lock etc. However the relay is...
