setting fence posts - is this correct?

Wabbitpoo, Yes I do nail both sides of the panel (not always easy if neighbours from hell live next door) on one side nail top & bottom on the other side one nail in the middle (why I don't know it's how I was taught when I first started out in the fencing world). Kevstir, Your idea is a...

setting fence posts - is this correct?

The post hole borer (scissors) will be fine to dig the hole so long as it's not to hard/stoney, use one of these (A is the one) http://www.drivall.com/fencingtools/fencingspades.htm to loosen the dirt then use the scissors to clear the hole. Dig the hole a couple of inches bigger than the...

    Qoutes to put fence up.....

Down here in the south you'd be looking at £1400 - £1500 for 6ft closeboard over that length (30mtrs) knock a bit off if wood posts are used instead of concrete. 6ftx6ft panels over the same distance would be in the region of £700 -£800. That would include removal of any old fencing.

Close board fencing on a slope.

mattb75 As a rule you need to have 2ft (600mm) of the post in the ground, so for a 6ft (1800mm) high fence you will require a post length of 8ft (2400mm). I only ever concrete posts in (the met posts veer off line in stoney ground), you can use postcrete (the stuff from focus sets in 10/20...

    Wires behind a skirtingboard

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/DL2D1608W.html I've used this stuff. Fix this to the skirting, it will save you destroying the plaster walls.

Close board fencing on a slope.

Hi mattb75, It really doesn't make to much difference what posts you use concrete or wooded, but you could get over length morticed posts, this will enable you to concrete a greater depth in the ground on the slope, so would help with the wind blowing the fence over. If you want to use...

Close board fencing on a slope.

Put the featheredge boards up vertical and plumb they will follow the slope of the gravelboard, each featheredge will then be stepped down the slope. This does make the fitting of the counter rail and weather capping a pain (also leaves gaps between featheredge and capping due to drop of the...

Don't know what part of the country your in, but berkshire area I price per panel with concrete slotted post at £65 for supply & erection, as for staggering the new fence to miss the old posts & concrete I'd do the same thing. Concrete base I've just done one 3 meters x 3 meters for £250 ish...

    Hanging 5 Bar Gates

Yes use hook & band hinges, the hooks are on a plate that is screwed to the wall or peir & the bands arescrewed to the gate if it's wood type, (if it's a steel 5 bar gate the bands should be on the gate) but there is no way of adjusting for the level of the gates using them hence the peirs must...

From what I remember of the rewire done some 13 years ago the cables drop down the wall from the fuse box in the plaster to first socket, then go back up the wall then go across between ceiling & first floor drop down wall behind plastic capping (that I fitted prior to drylining the walls)it was...

    post setting

Use post mix from any diy shed but dont mix to much up in one go as it sets in about 10 minuets or use cement & balast/gravel at a ratio of cement 1 gravel 5. If you have the sand & cement mix it in a ratio of one shovel of cement to four/five of sand, but add a one or two shovel loads of pea...
