    Glow Worm Ultracom 35cxi

Hi, just looking for some advice. Just spent the night at my daughters, dog sitting, and noticed that all rads were just luke warm, and rooms appeared cold (might be my age). Looking at the boiler, the rad temp was set to 45 degrees, which seems a bit low to me, so I upped it to 55, which was a...

    New oil combi recommendations

Cool, I think I'm sold on the Grant. Any recommendations on the TRV's? Also, they mention a chemical clean. Would it be best for a power flush prior to getting the new boiler. I've cleaned the system a few times myself previously, but only to diy standard. Water always "appeared" clean, and not...

    New oil combi recommendations

Thanks for the responses guys. I've had a couple of quotes as below: Grant Vortex Pro 26kw Oil Combi Boiler OR Worcester Greenstar Heatslave ii 18/25ErP+ Oil Combi (7 Year Manufacturer Guarantee) Horizontal Flue + Plume Management Kit Grant Magnetic Central Heating Filter OR Worcester...

    New oil combi recommendations

Hi guys. I'm looking to replace my old oil fired combi, and would appreciate some recommendations. The current combi supplies a bath an basin upstairs, the kitchen, and a basin downstairs. We use electric showers, so no supply issue there. We have 8 radiators in total. Current boiler is a...

    Finished floor below dpc.

Hi I live in an ex local authority house, built in the 1940's, and part of the house has an area where the finished floor is about half a course below the dpc. The walls of this part of the house don't have a cavity, just two layers of brick. It's a flat roof "extension", although it appears to...

    Shower waste pipe.

Hi all. I am having our downstairs toilet renovated, including having a shower installed. I want to do some of the work myself, but could do with some advice. The floor is concrete, so I was initially going to raise the tray box in the waste, but the room was in pretty bad shape, so the walls...

    Central heating filters.

Hi all, I'm about to do some maintenance on my sealed system, and, as I am having to drain it down, I'm considering installing a particulate filter. Some people seem to swear by them, and others say they are not necessary, so I would be interested in your comments/advice. As a selection, I'm...

    flooring problems

Hi Yes the lead has been disconnected, drained and abandoned. We had a new plastic pipe installed by a company that used an impact mole. The outside ground is below the inside level, and the walls appear to be dry. Most of the floor is fine, it's just an area that spreads out from where the...

    flooring problems

Hi guys We are renovating the kitchen in our 1940's house, and have uncovered a few unexpected issues. The kitchen is now empty, and we've removed ceramic tiles to reveal smaller quarry tiles. We also had lead piping from the street stop cock to the house, which has now been replaced, but it...

    Pipe bending

Thanks guys. The wife is pleased, and I am to be suitably rewarded. ;) Not sure about hiding the pipes. I used Talon clips, which allow for a cover to be fitted, but the wife doesn't like them. I might look to box in or paint, but the "boss" needs to make that decision.

    Pipe bending

Thanks for the advice all. I got a spring this morning from screwfix, and cracked on with it, so missed the last few posts. I've put some picks in an album. Not perfect perhaps, but looks ok, and it works :). The vertical pipes look out of plumb, but it is, in fact, the wall of our 1940's house...
