    Sinking Bath lips into wall

Thanks - so get the bath in when there’s no plasterboard on the walls and then Work around it whilst boarding? For reinforcement of the studs if needed do you recommend a few noggings around the area affected? Ok will make sure of that - a 1600 has been considered, we currently have a 1700 so...

    Sinking Bath lips into wall

Hi all Currently in the planning stages of a new bathroom and have a question re the bath. So I’ve measured the space we have for the bath and it’s 1620, this is with the current tiles on the wall. The bath we are looking at is 1675mm - we’ve been advised by the time the tiles / adhesives are...

Great thanks for the re-assurance- it’s actually starting to look better now the paints drying, looking abit patchy in some places but as you say the mist coat isn’t there to look nice! I assume should be ok with just the one mist coat?

    Painting newly plastered ceiling

Hi all A week ago we had our ceiling plastered over with a smooth finish, plasterer advised us to not paint till Sunday / Monday, with it being Christmas it was left till today. It all looked dry before painting, but after applying our mist coat a small patch has appeared, this bit had a hole...

    RCD Tripping

Thanks for the suggestions all, we are in a flat, no outside lights / plugs etc for us. Before going out today I turned off literally everything apart from essentials (in our case it’s just the fridge freezer / fish tank pump and heater) It’s not tripped all day so I’ve turned back on...

    RCD Tripping

Thanks! I went round last night unplugging pretty much everything - am out all day today so I’ve only left fridge / fish tank plugged in (checked here for any leaks too) Thing is expect it to be difficult to track - it first happened just over a week ago and was fine since till last night when...

Just went again... How annoying to be today of all days! Gone around switching stuff off - is switching off at the plug enough I guess?

    RCD Tripping

Aha I did think this - we have 2 sets of lights, one on an old type mechanical timer, and the others on a WeMo. The first time it happened it was around 6am so the lights weren’t on - of course that don’t rule out the timers?

    RCD Tripping

Hi all - Merry Christmas! Suddenly have abit of an issue with our RCD tripping out. It first happened just over a week ago at around 6am, tripped it back and didn’t think an awful lot of it, and now it’s happened again. When it trips it trips all the plugs, / boiler. The strange thing is...

Yeha before I did that the yellow and blue were in one end of a choc box and the red in the other end. I’ve actualy put it back like that and will install the switch on the other box as mentioned - once the switch is done on the other box as mentioned above should I change something in this box...

    Light Switch Question

Thank you! - so just to be clear (so I know I’m understanding right!) from the wires on the right hand side leave the blue, yellow and red cables connected together in the choc box. For the switch use the red from the left and the black with red sleeve from the right hand side? Thanks!

    Light Switch Question

Hi all Hoping this will be a reasonable simple question! In our place we have Hue lighting - back when we first got it throughout the entire house a couple years ago a friend of ours come and removed our light switches joining the cables with choc boxes to make sure no one ever used the...

    Smelly Drains

Pretty sure the dishwasher one was quite long and there's some "spare" hose sat under the units which sounds like it shouldn't be - if I was to cut the hose shorter will it still be watertight with a clip rather than the current rubber connection. As for the washing machine - again I'm sure...

    Smelly Drains

So I cleaned out the over flow pipe as suggested - as I said the smell seemed to had eased off before then and the past week or so there's been no smell atall - till today! Doing my best sniffing around it seems that both the washing machine and dishwasher units are both have a bit of a drain...
