    shower trap for 25mm ply

good technique big-all, thanks. the waste is one of those where the trap is accessible from the top. I assume that is ok?

    shower trap for 25mm ply

Exactly, I have the same issue! It's like the trap was designed for an 18mm flooring. Thanks for the tip, although I don't have an angle grinder, but I can borrow a router which should do the job! cheers :)

    shower trap for 25mm ply

hi, I'm putting 25mm ply direct onto joists. Shower tray will be fixed with mortar on top. The shower trap I have does not have enough distance between where it sits flush with the bottom of the shower tray, and where the waste pipe is connected. Is there a type of trap or extension I...

    offset shower waste

Yes, the waste will run parallel with the joists. I can box out the pipework a bit more on the side.

    offset shower waste

ok thanks. looks like i'll have to move it sideways to clear the joist.

    offset shower waste

the joists are 7x2" so I know it is bigger that advised but the notch is already there in the correct place as there are currently central heating pipes running there which I'm having moved.

    offset shower waste

hi, Have just measured up for a shower tray, and the hole for the waste is near enough directly over the joist! As space is tight, ideally I don't want to have to shift the shower tray across so the waste clears the joist. Is there a really low profile shower waste available that would...

    concealed mixer valve

thanks. so there would be a section that is tiled without backer board behind it? the hole in the backboard is basically bigger than the hole in the tiling?

    concealed mixer valve

hi, I'm trying to work out how to box in a concealed shower valve http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/46/p4767346.pdf The problem i have is that the max distance between the valve where the supply pipes connect and the parts that go on top of the tiles is not enough to accommodate...

    bathroom downlight silcone sealant

the roof is directly above, no loft space (apart from about 30cm gap from ceiling to roof). Hence lights are not fire rated. No insulation where lights will be. Lights will be positioned the required distance from any joists etc. An electrician will be connecting everything up. Anything...

    bathroom downlight silcone sealant

thanks. so the gasket is the silicone washer! the ceiling is flat, so I guess no need for additional sealant. the instructions aren't entirely clear. Can be read as only use sealant for uneven surfaces, or use it in all cases.

    bathroom downlight silcone sealant

hi there, my bathroom downlights say to use a suitable silicone sealant around the light. Thing is, there is already a silicone washer around the light where it sits against the ceiling. Do you think I need to add additional sealant i.e. from a tube? See step 1 under "installation"...

    extractor fan wiring conventions

The whole lighting circuit will be on an RCD. Adding a fused spur to bathroom lights and fan is not ideal, but if the only solution then so be it.

    extractor fan wiring conventions

thanks both. I could move the junction box to under the floorboards where the bath is going to go. that way, it would be accessible via the removable bath panel and a loose floorboard. The junction box has been there for years, would this still be an issue for the LABC when signing off the...

    extractor fan wiring conventions

Questions regarding this. 1. Having now installed 3C+E from junction box under floor, to 3 pole isolator, then to fan location, if I (or more precisly, the Mrs :)) wanted to have a pull cord fan instead of timed what should I do? Ideally I don't want to disconnect the switched live from the...

    extractor fan wiring conventions

Interesting debate. From my point of view (as a complete novice), it would be easier if the 3C+E followed the same colour convention as 2C+E but with the second live cable being brown with a white stripe for example. Although I can see that for other uses of 3C+E (other than wiring a...

Please excuse my ignorance. 3 core + earth duly acquired. Thanks.

    extractor fan wiring conventions

when wiring in an extractor fan to switched and permanent live, I assume it doesn't really matter where the neutral is taken (either from from the light, or from the junction box)? Providing a permentant live, switched live and neutral are all fed to the 3 pole isolator then all is ok. For...

    bathroom RCD requirements

[/url] thanks for the education re low voltage, very interesting. All installations are to be done in coming days with new wiring. I assume then that 12v downlights and SELV fans cannot be protected by RCD? Otherwise I am confused as you hint that you cannot protect an SELV circuit...
