hi,

I'm trying to work out how to box in a concealed shower valve

http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/46/p4767346.pdf

The problem i have is that the max distance between the valve where the supply pipes connect and the parts that go on top of the tiles is not enough to accommodate the 12.5mm tile backer board, the 9mm tile, the water proof membrane and the adhesive.

the only option I can see is to cut out a larger hole to allow more of the valve though the backer board and closer to the back of the tiles. But I cant cut it too much because the width of the chrome facia is not wide enough to cover the area I would need to cut away.

would appreciate any advice.

Thanks
Alex

I may be misreading the situation, but assuming you can fix the body firmly to whatever lies behind the backer board etc, then you could cut the larger hole in this board as you suggest to pull the whole thing forward, and cut holes in the tiles to allow the valve head to stick through, but not the whole of the valve body.

thanks.

so there would be a section that is tiled without backer board behind it? the hole in the backboard is basically bigger than the hole in the tiling?

Yep - that's the way I see it. Just a ball ache fixing the valve body and having the pipes going horizontally back before bending vertically down unless you've enough room not to have to do this.
