    Sensor Placement

Thanks for reply, some interesting points which I had not thought of and will now consider.(y) The story about your / your neighbours security light triggering each other sounds comical but I doubt it was at the time! Do you think other LED lights would have the same effect as they seem to emit...

    Sensor Placement

Thanks for clarifying that.(y) Cheers.(y) Will consider all of those things and anything else I can think of that may trigger them. Is it the heat from other lights that could trigger them or the light itself?

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Hi Sunray, Thanks for detailed info - much appreciated.(y)(y) I see what you have done by combining the LNE and NE into the multicore and this is something I will try to do for the reasons you have given. Number of JB's not a problem to me as I have to have 1 for each of the lights anyway as...

    Sensor Placement

Hi all, I am currently self building a 2 storey house and I have some Robus R180 sensors IP44 to fit that will activate 50W LED security lights via a relay system which has been discussed in another thread. I am first fixing my house and my questions for this thread are all about the location...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Hi, Thanks for updating your view and for your apology which is not required but gratefully accepted ;). TBH I don't know a huge amount apart from the basics. I have however learnt quite a bit from this thread and I am now confident that as per your post the 240v AC relays are the way to go...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Hi and thanks for all of your advice, (y)! I think your post is agreeing to most of my idea with the following changes... I will split the lights and sensors into 2 circuits as you suggest, thanks, this will allow for a circuit fault without losing all lights / sensors and will also allow me...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

So the reason for having the isolator switch is for when working on the lights, just like a bathroom fan? And if so I could just use 1 that isolates the entire relay enclosure and therefore all lights and relays whilst working on them?

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Good advice, thanks. (y) Throughout the entire build I've been ensuring all JB's are in accessible places and labelled and then all info relating to back boxes, JB's. lights etc are recorded for future use. This is also backed up with lots of photo's. I had not really thought of being able to...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Thanks for the advice.(y) I'm not sure that my detectors are volt free and tbh I think sticking to the 240v and paying a bit more for the relays seems to be a simpler, if not less expensive, set up so unless I discover a reason why it will not work I will most likely go down that route. With...

8 core alarm cable join advice

It's my own house and not really too concerned about the warranty as I fitted them myself and any issues I will rectify myself but to be honest I cannot see the holes having any effect on the windows performance in any way but thanks for the thought.

8 core alarm cable join advice

They are Elmdene 20mm's and I am fitting into a UPVC frame that is reinforced with metal so unfortunately I can't. I can however join and then push the cable into the frame void which at the moment is what I am thinking of doing.

8 core alarm cable join advice

Hi, Thanks for reply. If the contact fails then due to the lack of any ducting I would not be able the replacement contacts cable to the junction box, hence it would have to connect to the existing contacts cable if that makes sense. However I am running a spare cable to the contacts location...

8 core alarm cable join advice

Hi all, just after a little advice. I am fitting some pre-wired sealed flush contacts into a window frame and as the wire is only 1m long I need to make a join to the main cable. The join will be inaccessible once the plastering etc has been completed. Am I correct that soldering and heat...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Still based on the 8 Motion Detector / Relay / Light system can I ask if this is an OK wiring POA.... 2.5mm T&E power supply cable to the Relay enclosure from the CU. 0.5mm T&E ring circuit power supply to all Motion Detectors from the Relay enclosure. 8 core 0.5mm control cable in a physical...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Thanks for suggestion but everything is 240VAC so I am assuming that I would need to convert to DC which would complicate and add cost?

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Thanks plugwash! So I am thinking that all I need to do is then join the relevant lights switched lives from the 3 separate relays together and then treat this as any other light switched live? And to turn off the light completely use a centre off switch or I recall seeing a 2 gang switch wired...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Hi all, Thanks to everyone for their input, all appreciated and certainly more friendly than some of the trade specific forums I have been on for other things where you often get slated for even suggesting you may try something that fringes on that particular trade. (y). From the above I have...

Multiple Security Lights / Multiple Motion Sensors

Hi all, I am a self builder with some electrical knowledge and I am hoping someone can provide me with some guidance on wiring my security lights.:) In total I have 8 lights and 8 separate motion detectors, however in the example below I have only stated 6 as if someone can help me with this I...

Karndean flooring. Advice on screed and glue needed please!

Sorry but I will have to leave this to the experts to answer. If you want to know anything about buying chicken from Thailand then I may be able to help. Mark.

Karndean flooring. Advice on screed and glue needed please!

Kjacko, It's probably just me. I'm the sort of person who ideally wants to learn before I make mistakes and not from them. Also the fact that I have worked in purchasing in the food industry and sat behind a desk for the last 15 or so years does not really give me any base knowledge. As I...
