    Plastering onto Aquapanel

Wonder if anyone can help out on this one. I'm repairing the sash windows of a property that is being refurbished by a couple to sell on and make lots of money ala Sarah Beeney. One of the jobs undertaken by Mr couple was fixing Aquapanel to existing stud work, trouble is its out of line and...

Stripping artex, asbetos and decent plasterers

From what you've described £1000 for the walls is a bit heavy, even for N London. This sounds like a couple of days to me, London prices £500 ish.

    mishap with plaster

Is the cabinet made from hardwood - oak maybe. Some hardwoods react when plaster comes into contact causing the dark stains you mention. Its caused by the Tannin in the wood reacting with iron from the water used when mixing plaster. The only remedy apart from the ones already mentioned is to...

    Removing alarm panel

Hi' hoping some of you guys can help with what may seem an obvious question. I'm in the process of pricing up a job, one of the things the customer has requested is the isolation and removal of their intruder alarm panel. The customer has lived at the property for 6 years and has never armed the...

Buildings insurance - drains and sewers

I guess that each individual insurance policy will have different definitions as to whats covered and whats not. I managed to claim for a collapsed pipe section within the grounds of my property, the claim and work went through painlessly. I'd definitely contact your insurers and see what they...

    House survey results

What type of survey did you have? Valuation only. If the survey has highlighted this possible problem and you are serious about purchasing get the surveyor in, try to get someone to recommend one to you. We had a full structual survey, cost a packet but well worth it. All sorts of things were...

    RE-PLASTERING OLD HOUSE

Unfortunately hiring a pro and paying him a bit extra won't help you. For a start of you'd need to be with them on a few jobs to learn the basics, and most just don't have the time to show you. This isn't just plastering but all the trades, when I'm on the job  as it were it can be quite...

    RE-PLASTERING OLD HOUSE

Whenever you see a pro plaster walls and ceilings it looks so easy.I would hazard a guess that if you started to replaster your entire house after doing one bedroom wall you would think 'what have I bitten off'. Also remember that the standard of finish on the walls is what you and any future...

    Wooden worktop question

We use a rounding over cutter mounted in the router which gives a simple radiused edge. Route the top edge only and be carefull not to burn the wood if using a fixed pilot tipped cutter. You will only be taking a small amount from the edge so hold the router nice and steady and keep the same...

Replacing skirting boards w. radiators in the way.

Sorry haven't got my brain in gear - to remove skirting, take the rad off, prise skirting away from wall midway between rad pipes, use a tenon saw to cut the skirting, if this doesn't work make another couple of cuts in skirting at various points.

Replacing skirting boards w. radiators in the way.

I'm assuming rad pipes come up through the floor. So remove the rad then slide skirting down behind pipes. If this is not possible take the lenght of skirting and cut a scarf joint midway between the two pipes, then fit and if needed fill the joint, if your painting the skirting the joint should...

    Cupboard doors

You could use MDF if you are painting them. If you have a router you could use any number of profiles to add interest to the doors. Don't forget to use a mask. Yukkie stuff the dust.......... :)

    Smoothing uneven ceilings

Polycell Smoothover will give a good result IF you are competent with the trowel. Or you will spend ages sanding out trowel lines.

    toilet rocks, floor not level

Use the plastic wedges that the Glazing people use. Push the wedge between toilet and floor to stabalise the toilet, trim any exposed wedge and then carefully seal around the gaps to conceal the wedges. You don't need to remove the toilet then. :)

    Good place/shop to buy decoration materials? B&Q = :-(

For paints I don't think you can beat Dulux Trade Centres. Good quality paints and brushes and I've found the staff very knowledgable and helpful. :)
