What was the most dramatic thing that happened at your school?

We had a 13yo lad die from glue sniffing one lunchtime. Oh, and someone took a **** on the deputy heads car bonnet.

Post any old song you can think of.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. And although this link isn't the full original line-up, it's simply THE best rendition by David Gilmour.

Boiler output for CH vs HW

Not had a chance to take any measurements yet. But the thermistors and PCB were replaced last year (not by me) in an attempt to resolve it. Every heating engineer who as come out to investigate just wants to rip it out and install a combi. No way on earth am I going to let that happen.

Boiler output for CH vs HW

Sorry - missed your questions. The boiler is not noisy (ticks a little bit but no bangs, kettling, gurgling, etc). Up until 3 years ago, I'd never paid it any attention so I'm unsure if the problem has been here for all 7 years we've lived at this address or if it's something that has started...

Boiler output for CH vs HW

To confirm: it is a VENTED cylinder (RM 86775). I mistyped in my initial post. I have tried with the boiler at 80. The problem still happens, albeit at a higher temperature. I think you are spot on with your thoughts on the cylinder not reaching the desired cylinder stat temp and little heat...

Boiler output for CH vs HW

Just to clarify, I have a Y plan system controlled by Hive. Room thermostat for CH and tank thermostat for HW. Separate time programmes for CH and HW. No outside compensation. Boiler is set at 65 degrees. HW tank set for 60 degrees.

Boiler output for CH vs HW

Thanks for all the feedback and input. My base problem is that if the HW is being heated, the boiler (Glow worm 24 hxi) overshoots its temperature setpoint and goes into a repeating cycling mode. Fires up at full power and overshoots before it has a chance to go into modulating mode. It doesn't...

Boiler output for CH vs HW

Sorry. My bad on the cylinder. I meant a vented indirect cylinder. Anyway, the cylinder requires far less in terms of kW than the CH system does. So how does a boiler rated at, say, 18kw deal with a load that requires far less than the 18kw output? I guess by modulation. So what modulation...

Boiler output for CH vs HW

For a standard boiler providing heat for an unpressurised 2 pipe radiator system and for an unvented indirect hot water cylinder : if you need 18kw for the heating and 3 kW for the hot water, how on earth is the boiler supposed to deal with such a massive difference in required heat output? In...

    Brain bleeds.

It doesn't help but we've managed. Was hard on our teenage kids but they've been amazing. My poor wife contracted pneumonia, sepsis and MRSA whilst she was on life support for a few weeks so it was touch and go on so many fronts. It happened whilst we were on holiday in Staffordshire (we live in...

    Brain bleeds.

She has suffered a permanent brain injury which gives her some issues (fatigue, occasional impaired decision making, neuropathy etc) but came out of it relatively well considering she nearly died and had to have emergency brain surgery. It wasn't an aneurism but was something called Reversible...

    Brain bleeds.

My wife had a brain bleed way before Covid arrived. For those of you who are interested, we featured on Channel 5's 999 Critical Condition, series 2 episode 6. Horrific experience for us and so thankful that the NHS saved her life.

Led bulb controlled from another bulb

Many thanks for the feedback and ideas folks. It appears that there isn't a quick and cheap solution available so I'll have to resort to the low tech method of walking over to the table lamp and manually switching it on. That'll up my daily step count by about 10 ;)

Energy Saving in an Open Plan world

Ahh the joys of open plan living. It's very fashionable and on paper, a nice way to live (although personally, I don't want my kitchen to be part of my living room). But it's like trying to heat a barn. And all the heat heads upstairs as there's nothing to keep the heat where you want it.

Led bulb controlled from another bulb

Hi folks. I have all the table lamps etc in our living room switched on/off from a single wall switch. There is a dedicated circuit run around the room for this. I now want to add another table lamp but in a position where the dedicated lighting circuit isn't available so the new lamp will plug...

Keep the SUV or go full on middle age crisis?

Well I've pushed the button and gone for the crisis. I did classics for a number of years and I've lost all interest in maintaining cars myself. But this seems like a final chance at a fun car before incoming rules on speed limiters and the switch to EVs ruin any remaining pleasure in driving...
