    Pointing - Opinions/Advice required

Hi, Thanks. That would make sense about the short bed as where the pointing is falling out in places and it some exposed areas (barge board removed) the bed is quite a way short of the outer edge of bricks. Neil

    Pointing - Opinions/Advice required

Hi, I am looking for opinions/advice on the pointing on my bungalow. The property was built around 1930-1945. The bricks are very soft and I have been told that it needs pointing with Lime mortar rather than cement mortar. I have done lots of research and this seems to make sense. Here...

Opinions wanted on situation with electrical works.

Hi, I would like some opinions on a couple of issues/concerns I have with the current works at my house. Having a loft conversion done, which is nearing completion, electrician has put in new lighting circuit and ring main upstairs and new lighting circuit downstairs, he is going to be...

    Safezones and loft conversion

It is multifoil, but the rafters are 150mm, filled with 100mm celotex and then covered with the multifoil to achieve the necessary insulation values. I have read a lot of good and bad reviews about these products so will see how it goes. Thanks

    Safezones and loft conversion

Hi, I can see why its been done and it is purely poor planning on the part of the loft conversion company that has resulted in this. There is a void below the floor which is about 8 to 10 inches deep where they could have run the cables for the sockets (basically steels above old original...

    Safezones and loft conversion

Sorry, may have spelt it wrong. It's a loft conversion in a bugalow, skeilings are the sloping walls in the conversion (I think) basically the bit that follows the roof line internally. Will get some photos tomorrow in the light. Thanks Neil

    Safezones and loft conversion

Thanks. The rafters are insulated with silver foil, this is then battened, battens about 20mm deep, plaster board will be 12mm so the cables will all be within 32mm of the wall, skelling or ceilling surface. So I am concerned that there seems to no logic to the install. Will see what...

    Safezones and loft conversion

Hi, Could someone confirm for me that safezones still apply in a loft conversion. Currently we are insulated and battened ready for plasterboard. I find that the electrician has fitted his cables today and they are at diagonals across the skeilings and ceilling, also drooping...

Gable end, fascia, felt - which order

Hi me again, The timber gable ends are now covered with ply, the builder has put the UPVC fascia on today. I would have expected them to felt and batten the gable end before fitting the new UPVC fascia, or am I missing something? The way they have done it the felt (which I assume they...

    Gutters, downpipes and Building regs

Hi, I have done a search and read the relevant building regs document but still cannot find a definitive answer. Just had a hip to gable roof conversion and wanted to know if it is acceptable for the gutters to empty onto the garden? Previously this was the case but I had expected...

Been in a year now time to do some work on the house!

Excellent idea about the paperwork thanks. All the timber is c16 and c24 in the right places. I have some structural calcs but no details on fixings so I will have to chase that up next week.
