    unsupported joists below extension

Sorted the joists and the bounciness has gone. However I've now discovered this! The RSJ that supports the corner of the house from the first floor up has a smashed up rosemary tile and a bit of slate wedged underneath it and only a small section is actually doing anything! There is a...

    unsupported joists below extension

Got half of the joists finished and am happy with the results. The other half of he joists extend though into to the downstairs toilet and have a breeze block wall at half span which the builders have used as a support albeit not very well. Should I remove this mortar and replace it with a...

    unsupported joists below extension

Hello all, We had an extension done last year and the builders weren't great. They temporarily supported the new floor joists with a bit of 4 x 2 to get their levels right and left it in when they finished. I've just come to remove this today and it seems like it's been supporting the joists...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Looks like that may be my only option. Will need to shim the gap a bit first though. Thanks

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Finally got mine all tiled, will post a photo when it's finished. However I'm stumped at how to secure the flashing in the gap at the top. I've fitted the flashing in three 1m sections and have got about 40mm tucked between the top tile and the underneath of the sill. I've got a gap of about...

    mortar or lead mate?

Thanks for the reply as always. I did read that but didn't fancy paying the £12 a bag for a handful of mortar. I've got about 4m of pointing to do. Is it a no go on the sand colored silicone? Thanks

    mortar or lead mate?

Quick one for someone, need to seal some lead flashing that I've installed but I can't decide on what to use. The mortar is a light sand colour and I can't seem to get anywhere near sand tone. Tried with yellow building sand and rugby cement alongside mastercrete in all ratios and all I can...

what mix for haunching around soil pipe?

Evening all, Got some benching to reinstate around a soil pipe connection into the manhole cover. I've heard something about granite dust being used as it's hard wearing. Would the mix benefit from waterproofer aswell? Thanks

leave DPM in or use waterproofer in mix?

Haha, I've just re read what I typed. Does seem a little daft It's a good 8" slab I'll be putting back in. Do you think a splash of waterproofer will make much difference?

leave DPM in or use waterproofer in mix?

Have install a new water mains that comes up through the garage floor in ducting. I had to remove a section of the floor .5m2 which was laid on DPM, have tried not to rip this but it's got a few holes in it. I've backfilled the duct with concrete to the DPM level but do I reuse the section of...

    correct sand for backfilling trench?

Thanks for the replies. Just waiting on Severn Trent to backfill their bit so I can do mine. Tackling the manhole brickwork now, got to raise it up a course. What mortar mix is best? Seemed rock hard when I've been chipping it off so guessing a strong mix.

    correct sand for backfilling trench?

So would you say sand around the pipe to about say 300mm then type 1 for the rest? I'm going out in the morning to get some more sand. Keep thinking that sharp sand would be better as the grains lock together.

    correct sand for backfilling trench?

Have gave it a good surrounding of Building sand with pea gravel around the connections. My worry is that the clay we dug out of the trench was very soft as the boundary box has been leaking for some time. Would like to backfill with the best material I can if possible.

    correct sand for backfilling trench?

Would building sand be strong enough if compacted in Layers? I have type 1 if it's more suitable. Will be driving/parking right over that ooint in the future. Thanks

    correct sand for backfilling trench?

Hello all, nice simple one for someone in the know. We've put a new water mains supply in and have bedded and covered in 75mm of building sand to protect from rocks etc. Should the rest of the trench be backfilled in the same building sand. Or should it be sharp sand? We are block paving after...
