    extending pitched roof

hi. here are a few sketches. i'm just wondering if a new pitched roof is a case of taking all the old roof rafters and joists off and starting again, or if the new one can be built either without moving any of the existing one or maybe just taking the rafters away and somehow just adding more...

    extending pitched roof

i have a roughly 3 x 5m pitched roof kitchen extension. alongside it is a flat roof garage about the same size. i've already been given advice here about a few things re this rebuild, thanks (noseall and co). i'd like to have a single (even) pitch roof over both. is it likely assuming no...

    What's the difference?

thanks all. redherring: dont' the foundations need done the same either way? interesting point about single skin and adding second later. i imagine it's not as straightforward as just laying a second internal block wall at a later date though? as the new garage would have a pitched roof i...

    What's the difference?

What's the difference between having a garage built compared to an extension? I'm wondering if there is something structurally different or difficult to change afterwards? I realise a room would have plasterboard, decoration, more electrics, dpc and insulated floor. Cheers, turnpike

    low pitching

Thanks noseall. I've read so many negative comments about them I just wondered if I'd be making a mistake sinking any money into it. I'll get some quotes and as you say, try to make sure they know what they're doing.

    low pitching

Hi. Is a low pitch (nearly flat) roof not worth spending money on? I need to get my garage either repaired or rebuilt but, it's alongside the long edge of a pitched roof kitchen extension so it's difficult to do anything other than the nearly flat roof it already has (which is damp and needs...

    bosch dishwasher water in door?

cheers zipper. I've since found this http://www.fixya.com/support/t356875-dishwasher_leaking_around_bottom_door which says it might be me blocking a steam outlet. that would explain it happening only sometimes. still maybe the seal is weakened as i doubt ive only just started blocking...

    bosch dishwasher water in door?

 My bosch classix dishwasher is leaking at the bottom door corners. I haven't managed to catch it actually happening much. I've come back to it a few times and found a large pool of water on the floor, from the bottom right front. The seal seems generally ok. After a wash has...

    economy 7 strangeness

I've got economy 7 with 2 separate consumer units. What is (presumably) the economy 7 unit has MCB's for storage heaters and immersion heater. The immersion heater recently stopped working, so I decided I might as well replace the element to rule that out. However, I've noticed that...

stone tiles on old damp floor

Hi, I've got an old concrete floor without a proper DPM. I can't afford to have it dug up and replaced so I'd like to find a solution which allows it to breath as it is now. I am doing things to deal with the damp where possible but I need to tile now and don't want to assume the moisture...

    stop location

Can anyone tell me if a stop tap should always be fitted as soon as the mains enters the house? Is it ok to have the stop tap where the mains first appears above the ground floor floorboards, even if it runs 2 or 3 metres under them first? Thanks.
