Did you flush the pipe work before connecting to the shower valve. There are very fine mesh filters on the inlets to the valve and they soon block with flux, paste, scale etc.

Armeg do some superb drills and core bits for porcelain tiles. They will drill ceramic till the cows come home and you can get quite a few holes out of them through pocelain.
