    Bathroom extractor fan

Currently my extractor fan works off the light pull and theres no isolation switch for the fan. This means the fan comes only when the light is being used so in summer time never comes on to extract the steam because the light isn't being used. And in winter means it often comes on when not...

    Pyronix Deltabell

Thanks youve been really helpful, just checking i have this right: if I do have to cut the jack off is the positive the wire with the white on the outer? And it should go to +12V? And I take it the cable thats just plain black should be wired to 0v? Just want to make sure I don't fry the new...

    Pyronix Deltabell

Thanks, hope its not a silly question im looking at the wiring diagram for the siren and its not completely clear to me, does it get power via 2 core cable or from a plug in jack socket? I want to be sure I order the right PSU for it, cheers

    Pyronix Deltabell

Thanks, I think Ive settled on the texacom because I slightly prefer the look. I'm assuming it normally gets its power from a wired connection to a control panel? Im wondering if you can recommend a suitable power adapter that can plug into a 3 pin plug in the loft and power it directly? Cheers

    Pyronix Deltabell

Great so as soon as you apply 12v power the comfort leds and back light starts working? It doesn't need a control panel present at all? That's perfect, many thanks!!

    Pyronix Deltabell

Are there any installers/servicers familiar with the Pyronix Deltabell? I am thinking about getting a non dummy ie working backlit siren with comfort leds as above and installing it on a mains cable (don't know if it comes with adapter or if i need to purchase separately?) But im not planning...

    Air brick removal

Cheers fair point, I wanted to be clear because my previous house had an air brick in the external wall specifically to just the cavity (it didn't enter internally at all), but I suspect it might have been a vent for radon rather than the cavity :) as if i recall correctly i think that one was...

    Air bricks in bay window

Fair point I'm not am expert, that's why I pointed it out. That said I am experienced in a variety of trades and surely sharing knowledge and opinions is the whole point of this forum. Regardless it doesn't take a surveyor to work out that an air brick/vent at ground level will let water in to...

Old stone farm house with render trapping moisture

I cant really offer advice on rectifying the problem, but just wanted to say any problems can be sorted, for a price. If you love the property regardless, I wouldn't worry about survey findings and take them with a pinch of salt! That said definitely use it to your advantage if you can to knock...

    Air bricks in bay window

I'd be tempted to concrete half an inch to an inch from the bottom just to fill the gap and be sure ground water isn't pooring in. I'm by no means an expert though just seems a lot easier and cheaper than raising the height of the air brick or lowering ground level or adjusting the fall in the...

To cove or not to cove...

I've recently moved into a new place and some of the rooms have coving and some don't. I actually quite like coving and think it finishes the room off, my partner doesn't want coving. I think coving is becoming quite old fashioned and is going the way of artex. It doesn't look right with some...

    Bungalow

My folks had this done a couple of years ago on their 4 bed dormer bungalow. They had 3 quotes quite far apart (£2K, £4K & £6K) predicably they ended up going for £2k for a local father and son team, this included scaffolding for the sides and painting and if I recall was about a weeks worth of...

    Cavity wall insulation

I have moved to an old property, it is freezing and not holding heat well. Loft insulation is good, nearly at 300mm. There are some gaps around the windows which I'll seal up, also some of the upvc seals are not making contact so another cause of heat loss I need to sort. The floors are solid...

    Air brick removal

I have an air brick in a bedroom it has hit n miss vent but its still letting in lots of road noise and draughts and small insects. I also have opening windows with trickle vents and theres no boiler or gas appliance in the room. I took the hit n miss vent off to check the design of the air...
