    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Is there such an invention that can be temporarily put on the end of the pipe to stop the water coming out if I was to turn the water back on?

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Haha thanks. I shall give it a go. The other problem I have at present is that the screw slot to turn on and off the isolation valve is damaged, so I can't turn it, meaning I'm without water at the moment which isn't very helpful! I've tried taking photos but they don't come out too well.

Ok sure! Should the green stuff come off the pipe then I take it?

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

I've added a couple of photos that show it in better detail. It's not 100% smooth, but it doesn't feel very rough or anything. The green stuff doesn't seem to come off even after giving it a go with the scouring pad.

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

When you say about the collar/copper pipe end, do you mean the top of the plastic or the bottom of it? And when you say "pulled into the fitting" please can you elaborate on what you mean as I'm a bit confused!

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Thank you. I've had a go at removing the old one, but when doing so, the flexi pipe came off, leaving just the push on part of it still on the pipe. This remaining bit doesn't seem to want to budge! Do you have any tips about how to remove it?

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

My plumbing skills are not great to be honest haha, I've changed a ballcock in the loft tank previously and thought I could sort this problem out on my own but I've failed so far! I have found a flexi hose on Screwfix...

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Thank you both. I've attached photos of what I can see once the water supply pipe nut is loosened. When you say about there being a seal, where do you mean?

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Thanks for your reply. I bought this part, but at first I couldn't install it without water leaking from the washer used by the hole that this is inserted in. I have instead used the washer from the old one (which is slightly different in shape) and it seems to be holding. However, a new...

    Replacing Fill Valve on Toilet

Hi everyone, I have water slowly dripping into the bowl from the cistern. I've tried adjusting the level of the fill valve with the screwdriver and then when the water pours back into the cistern (after switching the water back on) the level looks correct once it stops filling, but after 30...

    Garage Demolition

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that makes sense. With the metal straps, do you meant for these to be put onto the inside of the garage to stop the breezeblocks being pushed in by the earth/roots outside?

    Garage Demolition

Hello all, Just wondering if you can offer me some general advice please! I have a garage at the bottom of my sloped garden. At one end, due to the combination of tree roots and the higher earth level, some of the breeze-blocks are being pushed inwards and I fear that eventually this may cause...

    Garden Tree/Garage Issues

Hello, I have uploaded a couple of photos of my small garden to http://imgur.com/a/yX0Vn . When I bought this place recently, the survey said that the garage was having structural issues due to the tree next to it. The tree is pretty tall and I'm also a bit worried that the roots will be...

    Fitting A Sashlock

Hello, I have bought a replacement sashlock and I am trying to fit it on one of my exterior doors. However, the part of the lock which goes inside the door doesn't match up evenly with the part that sits on the edge of the door. One side looks normal but the other side is a few mm out. As a...

    Asbestos in 1920-30s Bungalow

Just to give an update, we had an asbestos survey carried out a few months back and the results were that the only asbestos left in the property (other than the roof tiles) was above the ceilings throughout. The ceilings themselves are plasterboard, but these have been attached to asbestos...
