    Circumcision and human rights.

Which reminds me... Rabbi Cohen is announces his retirement to the congregation, and over the next few weeks eagerly anticipates both the extra time to travel more, and the expensive gift his flock will, no doubt, present to him on the day. On his last day, with a crowd around him in the...

Did you hear about the two cowboys from Brokeback Mountain? They rode into town and shot up the Sheriff.

    Gay

It's not a question of humanity, if it were that same argument could be used by rapists (front or back) and paedophiles. You can just imagine the scene in 5 years time if PC continues. Gary Glitter's plea to the nation..."just because I'm a convicted paedophile doesn't make me a bad person."...

    Pump head

Grundfos recommend 0.5m dynamic head as a minimum, so the static head in most cases will need to be about the 1.5m quoted, though higher static head is generally better. They also recommend the flow direction to be vertically up so that air bubbles will easily pass through. Glad to see you've...

    Long range WiFi ?

I am looking for a device which will extend my wireless broadband to a house about 3/4 mile away, so we can play games over "our" network and share a broadband connection without having to pay for two lots of broadband. Clearly it must have good security and, knowing the exaggerated range...

    Isolating valves for shower

Yes they will restrict the flow, but only slightly, and probably not as much as elbows rather than pulled bends. You can get full bore valves if it's a worry, or you can fit isolators to the 22mm pipes before you tee-off for the shower. Only you can say if it's of an acceptable performance.

    Bath Shower mixer taps

This suggests a blockage on the feed to this tap only. Do you have flexible tap connection pipes? Are they long, maybe the cold one has a kink in it? I came across one of these recently, a 1m long flexi which had kinked under its own weight after being installed badly (old taps at end of bath...

    Hot Water Tank Size???

It depends on your water usage patterns, though you'll typically be recommended to go no smaller than 170 litres. If you have teenagers there's no cylinder big enough, they'll still stay in the shower until it goes cold.

    combi boilers

IMO combis aren't suited to the British system because we have small (1/2") mains supplies at low (1-2bar) pressures. The same applies to gas supplies, so at 7am when you want a shower not only is the gas supply at it's lowest pressure, so is the water supply. Compound this with the effect on...

    Thermostat not controlling temperature

Well I wouldn't recommend doing so yourself judging by the amount of guidance you have asked for. Limit yourself to testing the functionality of the mechanical devices eg A motorised valve is a component which will (if fitted to your system) open and close under the control of the thermostat...

    landlord certificate

Might also be a good idea to copy the landlord in on your letters to the HSE. L/L may not have a legal duty to have the new installation checked for safety immediately, but if there is cause for concern, and he is made aware of that, he would be a fool not to bring forward the next inspection to...

Get it serviced, following manufacturer's instructions, by a nice CORGI registered fitter, and the problem will go away.

Recommended Quality Twin Shower Pump Please

Sounds like your "plumber" doesn't have the foggiest. Do you need to boost both hot and cold supplies? If so there is a very good pump made in England called the Stuart & Turner Monsoon. You will probably need the 3 bar negative head version. They are not cheap, and they're not (thankfully)...

    Boiler not firing

Does the pilot go out when the boiler demand is removed (assuming fan flue & auto ignition model). Have known the gas valve to fail to shut off the pilot supply, thus the flame rectification part of the PCB will not allow re-ignition. You can test for this by turning off the boiler and the gas...

New shower will not get hot

When the hot water starts to come through the thermostatic element in the shower will mix cold with the hot, thus reducing the hot water flow. If your combi is triggered by hot water flow the lower flowrate may cause it to go off. Try it set to the highest flow at the highest temperature, with...

    Hot water/ heating wiring problems

All new wiring? Not using any existing wiring at all? I am a little suspicious of your "qualified" electrician's credentials. In these three days has he not "meggered" all conductors to ensure no cable faults? Has he used 4 core heat resistant cable for the cylinder 'stat. I suspect not as...

    no hot water, no heating

I suppose you mean "I have only cold water coming through the hot taps", which is entirely different from your statement. The swiftflow is getting old now, the noises suggest the fan has seized and you'll need a CORGI fitter to replace it and perform the necessary safety checks.

Noisy hot water pipes in unvented system

Turn off the mains supply to the cylinder at the pressure reducing set. When a hot tap is turned on the water should run for several seconds before petering-out. If it stops almost immediately you could have lost the internal air gap, which will need regenerating - this is easy to do and will be...

    baxi bahama 100 boiler

Do you have a gas supply elsewhere, and does that work e.g. hob, fire ? What do you see/hear which tells you it is trying to fire? Do you hear the fan running up to speed? Do you hear the pressure switch clicking (once)? Do you hear the spark generator clicking? Does it repeat the ignition...
