Good afternoon guys, work is due to start next weekend on the foundations for my extension. The extension is the same width as the garage and the full length of the house. So basically behind the garage butting up and forming a new rear garage wall. At the moment my gas meter and boiler are in...

My small extension and cdm regs

Thanks guys, so who is principal designer? The retired architect or the firm of structural engineers checking ground conditions/calculations/kit design etc it is the firm of engineers issuing the design certificate.

My small extension and cdm regs

Hi all, just wondering how to play this one out. My architect is a family friend and has done me a favour by doing cheap plans for an extension. However he is now stating that due to updated cdm regs the onus is on him for all trades to work safely? Surely if I employ a trade it is their...

Transporting 20 pallets of blocks through a garage...

I wondered about a pallet truck. But I think I'd need to put a lot of ply down and fairly evenly to be able to pull a pallet truck with a pallet of breeze blocks

Transporting 20 pallets of blocks through a garage...

So before timber kit goes up, I need to get 20 pallets of blocks through the garage and stored in the back garden. Tha back wall of the garage is coming down anyway so the main issue is that the back...

Opening up a fireplace - A nasty surprise.

Yeah I don't have the Titan one I have a Bosch professional. As a gas fitter some of my friends and colleagues swear by the Titan ones. A fraction of the price of the more expensive makes and they take some amount of abuse. And if they break them they throw them away and buy another one cheaper...

    Ventilating a timber framed extension

Thanks woody, I am in Scotland and have found the regulation that says solemn vents don't count as unprotected areas and are allowed on the boundary. Even though it's timber frame we are going with suspended timber floor rather than on a slab. Thanks for your help!!
