Do I need a new roof?

We have lived in the house for about 10 years. Had a few slipped tiles (one which went through the car windscreen!). Theres a few that have cracked. The attic is a bedroom and bathroom so we don't have access from underneath. There is a small patch under the chimney where the ceiling...

    Replacing outside lights

I found the info on a spec PDF when I was searching this morning, I can't find the link right now as it was on my PC. H07 was recommended in other posts around the net, but I understand NYY is more ideal for the task. How do you go about getting something like H07 around the corner of a...

    Replacing outside lights

Thanks, I do understand but until I get hands on with the cable it's difficult to know. I think the H07 sounds the better for my bends of which I have three 90 degree turns.

    Replacing outside lights

Thanks. The HO7 says 3 x diameter when fixed. I am struggling to imagine what that actually means in real terms. Is the H07 much more flexible than the NYY?

    Replacing outside lights

Thanks again. I will just use the membrane for where the twin and earth goes in the first junction box. Like I say that junction box is in a totally dry area anyway. As for the cable. So the NYY will go around the corner of a wall ok? I was just worried it was quite bulky and wouldn't...

    Replacing outside lights

Ideally, I would go back into the house and change all the way through, but that's not possible at the moment. Where I plan to install the first new junction box is under a full roof and is sealed from the elements, so although technically it's outside the house, it's not really. Had a...

    Replacing outside lights

I think I now have a plan but really need help with the cable choice. Currently it's 10mm oval twin and earth. I was planning to cut the twin and earth where it is under the side covered alleyway and putting in a junction box and then using the new cable on the outside. Is it ok to mix cable...

How should I cable these outside lights?

There's no plans to fit fascia at the moment. Will be getting the roof sorted probably next year and will have something done then. Although I am slipping a pvc angle under the tiles go cover some gaps at the top of the render. Would it look better coming in straight along the back wall...

How should I cable these outside lights?

Should have said that's not an option. There is loft space, but the room is a bathroom that's all just been redone. Didn't think about the outside lights until it was too late. So it's a case of something similar to the picture, but hopefully tidier! Whatever I do it will be a lot safer than...

How should I cable these outside lights?

Back of the house, and this pic pretty much says it all.... http://postimg.org/image/k8esulqi1/ I have repaired the render and repainted it. I have taken down the two floodlights as they were rusted and pretty much falling apart. The twin and earth cable comes from the side alley of the...

    Replacing outside lights

Right thanks. At the moment the lights are run off 10mm grey oval cable. I have a feeling this isn't the correct cable? And, it looks crap. The cabel comes out of the house in the covered alleyway and then is routed round to the lights. I am thinking of cutting the oval cable just after it...

    Replacing outside lights

I didn't see the 76mm wiska boxes....http://uk.farnell.com/wiska/combi-108-5-s/junction-box-pp-blk-76x76x51mm/dp/2356064 So with these, do I need anything else or are the self sealing cable entries ok?

    Replacing outside lights

Thanks. I was hoping for something really small, but I can't find anything. This ones a bit smaller http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/98373-ip55-junction-box-5-term-70x70x40mm-epjbr4-smj-electrical.html would that be ok? Would prefer a black box though I think! Haven't ordered the lights but the...
