    Are all radiators born equal?

i understand the calculations to work out what size you need and i understand the tip about oversizing. But i'm no plumber, i dont know if there are brands that should be avoided or are prone to leaks or if literally a rad from one company is going to be identical to one from another.

    Are all radiators born equal?

All the rads in our place are what I would call standard panel rads found in most homes. None of them have any fins on the back to boost surface area. Looking around, there are lots of differnt radiator types, different brands, different materials. Aluminium rads are getting some attention...

    Loft Insulation

We'll they'll fit, but i don't know how well they hold in heat compared to other insulation products. Even with something like Celotex i think you would need 150mm thickness to meet the new recommendations for insulation levels. usually you'd need 250-270mm if it was typical rockwool type...

Triton T100e (old one) cartridge leak, obsolete part!

ahh ok, i assumed that because the cartridge has a spring with what looks like a plunger on it that it was supposed to form a seal.

Triton T100e (old one) cartridge leak, obsolete part!

The shower that was in the house when we bought it is leaking water where the cartridge (4) meets the "stabilizer valve assembly" (7) The circuit is only rated to 32a so its a limp shower to say the least, but in 3 months we are planning on doing the bathroom anyway and so will get...

    draughty hinge on alu window

one of the windows in my house has a noticable gap between the window metal frame for the window and the metal frame in the wall. where the window would usually pull tight againts the seal it leaves a gap of probably 5mm letting in cold air and noise. Am I right in thinking that I just need...

Which kitchen units on a budget

http://www.dlglass.co.uk/ was the company we used. I actually found them on ebay and in one of the listings it mentioned that they did custom sizes. The site looks a little archaic but they got the glass to us within a week when the other more expansive companies wanted 2 weeks. i just dropped...

Which kitchen units on a budget

the wife and i have gone for a black glass splashback for our kitchen. The rest of the space between cupboard and worktop is taken up with mosaic glass tiles so it seemed to be a good idea. We got a couple of quotes since we need an odd size (920x895) and had two up at nearly 200. There was no...

    Kitchen cabinet fitting advice.

Were there no brackets included to hold the base units to the wall? I find that a little surprising since both my parents MFI kitchen and my recently installed IKEA kitchen all have a bracket to just hold the unit in place. the back of the units is usually flimy but thats nothing to worry...

    replacing kitchen worktop

i;m not sure this is in entirely the right area to get the best reply. The projects sub forum doesnt get as much love as say the plumbing subforum. however, i think you can do it yourself assuming you are disconnecting a bayonett fitting from the mains and then putting it back on again. AFAIK...

    Our house into a home

Hi Hass, The Range is a Rangemaster Kitchener 90 so is only 90cm wide instead of the large 100 or 120cm ones. We would have liked a larger one but 90cm was really the largest we could get away with in the kitchen. We managed to get it from Dixons for £1000 which was about £250 cheaper than...

My heating system only makes hot water when the CH has been

I'm in th emiddle of doing the place up for us to move into and have noticed that if the heating is set to off but the hot water is set to on, we get nothing but cold water. If the heating is on and the hot water is on OR off we got hot water. The boiler is a Potterton Suprima 50L and in the...

Some more pictures taken today. The fridge freezer is 60cm wide and in a 60cm gap which was a bit of a squeeze! The living room needs some tidying up around the purple and the chimney wallpapered ready for the fireplace.

Filling a hole - best way?

i dont know the correct answer but if you do go with filler i'll add that the box of PollyFilla all purpose powder that I bought is much easier/better to work with than the tub of PolyCell "easy sand" filler. Really easy to mix up too.

    Our house into a home

We got the call yesterday to say that the sofas would be arriving on the 13th! Needless to say the wife informed them that they wouldn't and they are now coming on the 20th instead. That means we have just 9 full days to get as much done as we can so that we don't have to shuffle around the...

I'm just about to start getting the kitchen sorted and picked up a load of waste parts in preperation. I picked up 2 HEPvO wastes with the plan of using one to come from the sink down to the outgoing pipe and another for the dishwaster and washing machine. Now i picked up 2 spigot Ts that...

    Our house into a home

Hey John, thanks for your comments. We seem to have been fairly fortunate so far with the condition of the house. We need to redo the lighting but the mains were DIY'd (and now checked to be safe) and a new CH boiler and tank were already there before we moved in. Only 1 wall has needed...

    Wall chaser

Just to add, I hired a chaser and vac from HSS today to do the 20m or so that i needed. I got the Bosch one (only 900w) and I was done in 90 minutes bearing in mind i had never used one before and had to keep stopping to rest (hard work kneeling along for a couple of horizontal chases!) and...
