How much weight can ceiling joists take?

Here is a diagram I made. I am only going to board out the central 4.2m leaving 2m on either side where the eaves are unboarded. To clarify the joists from the back wall of the house run 4.2m to the internal brick wall. Then another 4.2m joist is connected to that which runs from the internal...

How much weight can ceiling joists take?

Reading that again it seems that I wont be able to board the loft then? As 0.25KN/m2 is 25kg per m2 - so for 40sqm looking at 800kg max weight inc the weight of items. The loft legs weigh much less than 1kg each - more like 250g each so they go down from 120kg to about 30-40kg So the weight...

How much weight can ceiling joists take?

It was wooden battens and then the plaster was applied to it - battens were about 5-7mm and the plaster at least 1-2cm. Do not sure how much that weight was. I have walked on the joists when the original ceiling was in place and I weigh nearly 15st - 95kg.

The ceiling joists are 4.2m in length and 4 x 8.5cm in dimension- the house is circa 1910. The house is 5m wide and 8.4m in length. The joists meet on a supporting wall in the middle of the house. I have removed the existing lathe and plaster ceiling so all that's left are the joists. Will...

    Boarding out a loft

I also have a cellar for heavier storage. I was going to use the attic for light storage that needs to be kept dry as the the cellar has some damp issues which need to be resolved. I have about 5 lengths of 4 x2 's - could I use those? Thinking again I may just use loft legs on all of the...

    Boarding out a loft

Currently there is no first floor ceiling - had the old lathe and plaster removed as it was sagging. So when the plasterboard is put on the ceilings - I can then add loft insulation.

Easiest self install DIY wired / wireless alarm

My renovation costs have gone quite a bit over - and to save some money I am thinking of going for a self install wired or wireless alarm. I have looked and it seems that wired alarms are more reliable but how easy are they to program / set up. I have seen some kits by Texecom Veritas range...

You mean put the broken stone slab back and then place a concrete lintel under that. The lintel - can it rest on engineering brick or breeze block?

Stone hearth in cellar broke off

So the stone slab that was under the fireplace in the living room above broke off. It was resting on a gas pipe which has been disconnected and moved out of the way. Once the slab was removed there was no shifting and the fireplace above remained solid but I do not want to leave it as is. The...

Anyone recommend a Waterproof PU adhesive?

Thanks for that. I was planning on buying them online but I think I will pay a bit more and buy from a local provider, however the ones the tile shop showed me were just unbranded and he took them out of a box to show me. Where will I find the BBA docs for unbranded items?

Plasterboarding ceiling - use large or small boards?

You mean the boards go across the joists and not in the same direction as the joists.
